On the positive side, Nutella makes very effective bait for a mousetrap.

On the negative side, I would have preferred not to need to know that.

It must be at least in part seasonal, as I've been testing the baiting power of peanut butter, and the efficacy of those sonic repelling things, after poor O got woken up by a small furry and uninvited guest ... much sympathy!

My grandmother uses Chinese sausage and dried cuttlefish to catch the rats around here. Basically anything strong smelling. We trap them humanely and then release them some ways away, but since there's a lot of construction going on nearby, they'll probably be back. *sigh* And we're pretty sure one of the rats we caught committed suicide. He thrashed around so much he caught his neck on a sharp piece of wire and just stopped moving.

You probably didn't need to know that either.

Sounds like you need a couple of hungry cats. Mmm, mousies.

We had one cat who brought them into the house (and released them alive and well). And I hear that one of my parents' dogs brought a live bunny into the house. Obviously far too well fed, but wanting a fresh snack tucked away for later. :)

It released LIVE mice inside the house?! Obviously, this cat did not finish reading the instruction manual, lol!

I swear our cat was trying to set up a breeding colony of field mice in the house, she brought in so many and let them go in the hall. And voles. And bats. And a MOLE.

Seriously! More than one. I tried to explain to her that a) they're a protected species and b) they carry nasty viruses, but she wasn't a bit interested. Fortunately, since we took out the little wall in the garden that she used to sit on and watch them, she hasn't caught another one

Yeah, he was a really sweet cat, but I swear the dog we had then was a much better mouser.

I've used peanut butter before, but hadn't thought of Nutella (though I'd hate to waste the nom on mouses!)
