30 days of fanfic meme, day 10

pensnestToday I made a Whole Bunch of sandwiches, for the funeral/celebration of the lovely fella who would have been my Major General. Also wrote Pooh/Legolas fisting (with honey), which I would not have anticipated when I got up this morning (or, really, any other morning), but, as you can probably tell, I've been pootling about reading the latest in Blundering Outsiders Wish To Exploit Fandom And Get Handed Their Arses links.
Kind of a strange day, to be honest.
Day 10: Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
Well, there was the Nightmare SeSa Of Doom (2006, I think), where I was assigned Torch as my recipient *and* had to write Justin/JC for the first time. (It was either that or Letterboys, and my experience of writing Backstreet at that time was minimal.) JuC isn't my thing, really, and it would have been better to try and figure out how to write them together in a story that wasn't a SeSa gift (for Torch), but the story worked out okay. I've written JuC a few more times since then, and it's still not really my Thing, but I can deal with it.
I haven't written much JoeC - I tried, a couple of times, early on in my popslash experience, but don't think I really got it right. So there are pairings yet to explore.
I find nowadays that I rather look forward to getting an unexpected pairing for SeSa, although of course it depends on the recipient. Letterboys for JM was quite a challenge, too! Most recently I included Chris/Howie, which I actually enjoyed writing quite a lot. Indeed, I've written the major pairings so often now that I like the challenge of writing an unusual couple. That said, if I get Joey/Howie or JC/Brian this year I shall probably scream first and write after a fit of the sullens.
