The eternal jacket
Jan. 4th, 2012 03:57 pmBun's jacket!
It was knitted in Malabrigo worsted (merino, gorgeously soft to knit with and wear, not unexpensive), in a beautiful dark green which is variegated with paler green and soft blues. The colour is more accurate in the first picture, but you get to see more detail in the second.

I actually added a bit to it after this pic was taken, so the neckline is somewhat higher and meets the hood a bit more satisfactorily. The fill is what I think it called double moss stitch—same as the button bands down the front and the bottom edge of the whole jacket. It's not a fabulous shape, but it was my first attempt at a top-down, no-seams knit, and I dare say I shall improve.

A view of the jacket from the back, showing my awesome cabled panel (from nape to collar) and the cabling also on the lower sleeves. It's a gorgeous cable pattern, snitched from here. Not that I followed the pattern—possibly I should have done, it'd have given me less grief! At least I learnt a fair bit in the process, having to rip out the first version (I'd done the *sleeves*, woe, but when it's an all-in-one deal with no seams, frogging is heartbreaking) and re-do some of the button-band and reattach the hood.
Well, it's done.
