pensnest: Chris in silly hat, caption A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything (Chris in That Hat)

Real world with added weirdness... you know, based in canon (they're popstars!) but with supernatural or otherwise inexplicable extras, like, magic is real, there are vampires in the audience, they have superpowers, they swapped bodies, etc.

Oh boy. It feels as though fully half of all the popslash stories ever written would qualify for this one. There's the one where Chris shrinks, and the sudden telepathy between Lance and Chris after a lightning strike, and the Lance/Justin bodyswap *fans self* and the JC/Britney bodyswap, and any number of 'wakes up as a girl' stories, and, and...

I'm going to go with something that won't immediately spring to mind, namely A Sheepish Kind of Love by Natalie. In which the people who fall in love with Chris... turn into sheep.

I also seem to have written a few of these... okay, Round Dance is my body-swap story, only I didn't want to write one in which two people swap with one another and exchanged information at once. I decided to write something in which four people swapped, but in a sort of pass-it-on exchange, and didn't realise they hadn't done a straightforward swap... There's not a lot of precedent for multiple body-hop-swap stories, and as I've written one, I know why. Inevitably, it turned into Trickyfish. Oh, what the heck—also Horny, which features a unicorn.

Horny is an awesome story for about 5000 different reasons, but for me, it's A, because the idea of Lance and a unicorn is just GORGEOUS, and B, I love the idea of JC rounding up Swedish twins for Lance.

*bows to your greatness*

...I'm sorry, but wow, it's been AGES since I thought of Natalie. God bless popslash! And God bless popslash that used any tool to put anyone with anyone, for that matter. And now I'm off to read your dignified-sounding four-way.

Oh, goodness, that sheep story was awesome! Thank you so much for reccing it. I still haven't gotten around to going through the MTYG archives.

I'm going to read yours, too -- four-way bodyswap, awesome -- but it's late and I got a bit confused in my sleepy head about who was whom. I'll tackle it tomorrow. I did read far enough to giggle about JC's grooming habits, though. He so would.

I'd also be interested in reading the Lance/Justin and JC/Bobbie bodyswaps, if you remember who wrote them. I was thinking the lambs was Sandy, but the one of hers I remember is popstar!Justin swapping with college!Justin (still lambs, of course).

So it turns out Sandy wrote both a Justin/Justin and a Justin/Lance bodyswap; the latter is Isle of View. Might that be the one you're thinking of?

(Also, general link list of popslash bodyswap stories.)

I couldn't find the JC/Bobbie, hmm.

And a belated thank you for the rec! I'd forgotten how good Isle of View was.

I particularly like the way Lance just copies Justin's last performance over and over, although, interestingly, when I saw Justin live on his Justified tour, I became obsessed with how rehearsed everything seemed. (To the point that I kept turning to a friend, who'd also seen him a few days before, and saying, "Did he do that in Melbourne? How about that?") I missed the spontaneity of the 'N Sync concerts I'd watched footage of, where there were obviously set pieces but at least there where moments of interaction that seemed fresh. Solo!Justin seemed to have planned out every single moment in advance.

Round Dance was also a lot of fun, though I have to admit I was glad you provided a cheat sheet! (I was just at the point of writing one down when I came to the AN in your story.) It must've been awfully confusing to try to write.

Yes, please! I can't remember whether I've read the bitterchick story before or not, but either way, I'd enjoy checking it out.

You know, you could make an entire month's rec challenge based just on 'added weirdness' stories :-)
