Ahahaha! Men are such wimps.

The sky has been an unexpected shade of blue today. Early this morning it was a soft, hazy, almost purple-blue, then it cleared into the bright blue of actual summer. About time. It probably has something to do with my finishing my first seam-free sweater a couple of days ago. Huh.

I went to my first Zumba class this morning, and enjoyed it very much. My Latin dancing helped a lot: even though most of the class seemed to be Salsa-based, I managed to get the hang of most of the footwork. Arms can wait a fortnight or so. I emerged scarlet and covered in sweat, but it was very energising.

They keep advertising Zumba as something that's easy for everyone, just like that, but it seems so complicated to me as I've only ever done non-dancey gym classes. Not that I've done any gym classes since I graduated and lost access to the super cheap uni gym. WHOOPS.

There was a woman who does some other classes with me, who'd decided to try Zumba on the same day I did. She really struggled. It is rather more complicated than an ordinary aerobics class, since the salsa steps aren't straightforward 4/4 time, and it actually matters quite a lot which foot you end up on! I've encouraged her to keep trying, and to concentrate on getting her feet right next time and not worry about her arms! After all, it's a lot more *fun* dancing than doing 'exercise routines'.

zumba confused the heck out of me, but then I kind of expected that it would - I utterly suck at watch-and-copy as a way of learning dance things.

Oh my God, the UK version of Amazon has much, much funnier reviews than we do here in the US!

Zumba! I discovered I had the videos a few months ago but haven't started yet. Yes, it's salsa-based but I've heard it's awesome. I might try it once I'm on my new ship. I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
