I was just looking at a lingerie site (actually this one) and am puzzled by the fact that garter belts (suspender belts, for those speaking my language) are apparently commonly worn *over* the knickers. They do it on the Victoria's Secret website, too.

This is impractical. *Everything* has to come off before you can have sex. And going to the loo becomes problematic. Put the suspenders on first, then the knickers. Yes, even when posing for pictures.

I don't have a sexy garter belt, I have the one that hockey players use to keep up their socks. I still but them on over my knickers but only because I wear it over my hips.

I always wore my suspender belt over my knickers because otherwise the suspenders rubbed on my hips... I haven't worn one in a long while because suspender fasteners tend to show through my skirts.

I haven't worn one in ages either - my hatred of tights persists, but I seldom wear dresses these days and can usually get away with popsocks if the dress is long enough, or bare legs. But under the knickers those suspenders must go!

I know! People get it wrong in crossdressing stories all the time and drives me bonkers. And to suspect that the writer has never worn a garter belt in their life. If they had surely they would know that whatever might happen in photos you can't wear them like that in real life? At least not if you want to do anything else beside pose and look pretty.

They look wonderfully sleek in the photos, but that is Not The Point! Hmm. Perhaps I should see if I can write something in which someone puts them on incorrectly, and is inconvenienced as a consequence.

Yes, you should!

The first time I wore one, I discovered the hard way (when desperately needing to go like right then) that following the picture on the box was NOT the way to do it. I didn't have anyone to ask, so for years I figured I was secretly 'doing it wrong' but was justified by the fact that I didn't want to have to remove every blasted thing just to pee. Or anything else that requires underwear-removal.

I remember a seventies murder mystery novel where knowing that fact was fundamental to solving the crime! Funny how wearing suspenders has become niche.
