Awwww. Just watched the Men's Keilin medal ceremony - they gave *two* bronze medals, and both the guys looked so happy to be up there! Meanwhile, there's Sir Chris Hoy weeping. Aww.

I missed the actual race, so I still dunno exactly what a Keilin is!

ETA: Keirin, not Keilin! It's the one where the cyclists chase a little motorbike for a while and then sprint like lunatics.

Hee, yeah, it was so adorable to see the both of them being so incredibly happy about sharing that third spot!

It really was! And the footage showed them crossing the line inseparably, so I'm glad the judges awarded them both medals.

I think it might actually be called a Keirin? And I watched the women's, and still couldn't tell you what it is. (This is true of nearly everything that happens at the Velodrome.)

Keirin it is - thank you! It's that race where they cycle round behind a pace-maker on a little motorbike and then sprint like mad at the end. Nobody knows why. Apparently it was invented in Japan; I am relieved to know that we British didn't invent All The Weird Races.

The velodrome races are truly weird and wonderful, aren't they! Our affirmed favourite is of course the one where the rider at the back is eliminated every (or every other?) lap. A complete hoot to watch!

I still maintain it would be better if they were eliminated with giant hooks on poles. Also, that would solve the problem of the little flashing lights not flashing, and people getting to stay in.
