So, Camp Sparkle is well and truly over. My post-Camp guests were dispatched yesterday to their various destinations, a thousand bedsheets have been washed, and only fifteen packets of crisps, four bars of chocolate, a sack of Nerds and half a Kringle remain to be consumed.
The house turned out to be just what we needed (odd plumbing problems and a lightbulb full of water aside), and I don't know who put in an order for sunshine, but the weather was fantastic. Go to North Wales and get sunburn! The beach was within easy walking distance, and I believe some hardy souls even ventured into the sea.
There is so much to see there. Bodnant Gardens, beautiful stealth-sloped place where after wandering happily along the planted paths you turn and realise that you've descended quite a long way… The zoo, with bears! and tigers! (but no lions) and ostriches showing off, and baby otters, and many cute creatures. Admittedly I am not entirely in favour of small zoos, but the penguins on parade were adorable. And the seagull, in amongst them, going I'm a penguin. Totally a penguin. Penguin. See? Gimme fish.
We went to Beaumaris Castle, which would be an excellent place to film a pop video (possibly in slow motion) with all the windows and different levels where random combinations of brightly-clad Campers popped up. All we needed was a choreographed section on the grass in the middle, and another on the top level. Which would probably have startled the other tourists. Then on to
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, to take photos. And a more modern house, with a lovely garden that included a most splendid tree house, and bunnies.
We went to the Slate Museum, and had a demonstration of slate splitting and shaping. We (well, not me, 'cause I felt a bit queasy) visited the Electric Mountain, but failed to get on a train up Mount Snowden because everyone in the world was visiting it that day. Never mind. There's always next year.
We played Sparkle Against Humanity, which was a great success. (What is Justin Timberlake's most endearing characteristic? An Oedipus Complex.) We played Dixit, or, as I like to call it, Pixit, with the giant sparkly board constructed for the purpose. We played Sparkly Crack. We watchedentirely too much naked Brian* quite a lot of the Backstreet video for Show 'Em What You're Made Of. And other classics.
In fact, we did a lot of things that I cannot even remember, for the awesome stacks up and cannot be captured. Why does not every fandom have its own mini-conventions? Is this outright scientific proof that popslash is indeed the Best Fandom Ever? I think it may be so. I love you guys. See you next year.
