Well, 'tis done.

And done quickly were a good idea, too. After *stuffing* the back of the car - and how wise we were to acquire a Volvo estate - with, among other things, two boxes of kitchen Stuff, a flat sheep, more T-shirts than I wish to count, about a thousand pairs of brightly-coloured socks, and goodness-knows-what else, we managed to set off for Bristol at 8.10 this morning. This turned out to be A Fine Plan, as we got there at around 10.30 and had no trouble parking at her cosy Hall. (By the time we left, cars were lined up to get in, which was particularly interesting as the parking spaces are at the end of a cul-de-sac with no room for exiting traffic to pass...)

I reckon I did my exercise quotient today, since her room is on the fourth floor.

It's a nice room, long and thin but high-ceilinged (one of the good things about an old-ish building), and with sufficient storage to absorb all her boots, trousers, toiletries and T-shirts without appearing to be untidy. Yet. Hah. JR helped set up the iMac, I emptied stuff out of boxes into drawers, cupboards and shelves, and Boy complained (he had, it is true, carried the box of textbooks up to the room, and was feeling somewhat stretched about the arms - there aren't many textbooks, but each one of them is veritably a Mighty Tome) and lay on the bed. We went down the hill and found a nice lunch in a place called Zizzi, which was full of middle-aged couples accompanied by at least one offspring of studenty appearance. Funny, that. Then an Expotition to Sainsburys so that the Bun need not starve (there was no room in the car to transport comestibles from home, as it was we could barely see out of the rear window), and back up the severe hill to the Hall. My buttocks will be toned and firm.

Anyway. After the ritual handing over of money and parental blessings, we took our leave. Bun had two meetings lined up for this evening, so I hope she has by now made some tentative steps towards establishing friendships and a cooking circle. She is wearing her ROCK IS DEAD* T-shirt, which should help. The kitchen is enormous, and there are three (!!) cookers in there, so it should be a good place in which to socialise.

Am conscious of some envy, as university is such a fine place to be. Hope (without particular confidence) that she will refrain from making the mistakes I made. Still, I'm pretty sure she will cope and be happy there.

Isn't that right, daughter mine?

Ack! I'm so sorry--this week completely got away from me, and I forgot to send the recipes! Man, I suck. I'll do it now, and maybe they'll still be helpful.

I'm so ready for a week that's NOT crazy, seriously.

Funnily enough, *I'm* kinda envious. I wish now that I'd done the college/university thing, staying in the dorms and whatnot. I don't have regrets for how I've lived my life, per se -- and certainly not the offspring part -- but I do wish I could have that experience. Ah, well.

Good Luck, Bun :)

Yes mum, I am doing well, meeting lots of people and making friends. We are being kept very busy with all sorts of activities. The traffic light party is tonight and should be good.

I can recieve e-mail but I wrote one to you earlier and it wouldn't send.
