Sep. 24th, 2015 10:08 pmBusy day today. I wandered up the road to the salon to which my previous hairdresser has transferred. I suppose I never really noticed in Hemel, as I regularly went to Toni & Guy in the middle of town, so perhaps there were salons *everywhere* there, too... I am certain there are at least six hair salons, and a similar number of nail/beauty salons, within a twenty-five minutes' walk of my house, and it wouldn't surprise me to find there are more. While I had my hair done, Beast was here to welcome people who'd come to inspect the pool and assess whether it can be removed handily (we think we have a buyer). After which, Beast and I drove into town—the council runs a handy website with the numbers occupying all the central car parks—and went off to The Belgian Monk for a quick and tasty lunch. Note to self: must return thither to sample cherry beer, raspberry beer, and other possible beers. Hmm. I'm not usually a great beer drinker, but the menu is extensive and enticing.
Beast needed new slippers (old ones so loose I feared he would break his neck somewhere) and swimming trunks (left the others at the gym, never to be seen again), so we hied us to M&S and found some, then he walked home and I went to my cake-free knitting group. I have started on a pair of mittens in scarlet Aran yarn, a great relief after what seems like an eternity of laceweight shawl. I wandered through the Royal Arcade on the way to the bus stop and found a rather lovely abstract painting to admire—the saleswoman was quite keen to sell it to me, but I don't think it's a possibility right now—and allowed myself to be tempted by macaroons. Rose, chocolate and mint, lavender, and chocolate orange flavours. Which we ate when I got home, and which were very good indeed.
The choir rehearsal was in a school this evening, as a very early prep for the December concert which will be held in there. Amazing place! It looked more like a very modern university than a school, and the concert space is lovely, with tall tree-like... things holding up a gallery, and all kinds of splendidnesses.
At some point during our mid-rehearsal break I fished a car park ticket out of my pocket, and thought, odd, how come I still have the tick... ah.
So the person who was on driving duty this evening (good thing it wasn't me!) dropped me near the Castle Mall car park and I retrieved my vehicle. £13.50 parking fee, sigh.

Date: 2015-09-26 08:21 pm (UTC)I don't know if I really approve of a knitting group without cake. It's probably better for your health, but I like cake :-) And yes, knitting something in a nicely substantive yarn is a great relief after using laceweight.
*snerk* At least you remembered about it the same day!

Date: 2015-09-26 09:54 pm (UTC)It does seem very perverse to have the knitting group in the library, where there is nothing beyond water to lubricate our chatty throats, particularly when there is a café plainly visible opposite us! I'm used to having my knitting with actual refreshments, and I must say it is a better plan. You must come and visit, so that I can take you to Biddy's for tea and gluten-free cake.
*sigh* I felt very foolish!
