A celebration cake.
Nov. 6th, 2016 10:58 pmMy Bun was 30 on Friday.
THIRTY.
She had requested a splendid Cake, so I conspired with her housemate: he baked a large chocolate cake, and I did the decorating.
I practised in advance. (pics can be clicked for large versions)

I was quite proud of this, but unfortunately the burden of butter icing proved too much and the eventual dragon didn't have quite such a proud neck.

Still, it looked pretty good, for a first attempt.
Tristan delivered (somewhat to my surprise) a *square* chocolate cake on Wednesday, which was... well, my own first attempt had been with a round one. But it was perfectly doable. I didn't take pictures of the cake in development this time. I baked an orange cheesecake in a large oval dish (2lb of cream cheese) and the eventual arrangement had the dragon curled lovingly around its hoard of chocolate.

The wings were melted mints with a little food colouring swirled while they were still bubbling, and gold spray on the underside. Sadly, one of them broke as I was trying to re-fix it into the cake once we'd arrived at Bunnyhold. They were a bit oversized, I think it would have been more effective if I'd made smaller wings.

And finally, in situ in the birthday girl's kitchen.

In other news, I have just learned that Old Macdonald's Farm in Latin goes thus:
Macdonaldus senex fundum habet!
E I E I O!
Et in hoc fundo nonnullas boves habet!
E I E I O!
Cum moo moo hic, cum moo moo ibi, hic moo, ibi moo, ubique moo moo!
Macdonaldus senex fundum habet!
E I E I O!
