We are an island in an ocean of mud. Chaps have been putting piles in on one side of the house, and on another, other chaps have been digging out the soil ready for conventional foundations. The drive hosts a pile of sand and a pile of cement bags. (Fortunately our awesome neighbour has a very large drive and the car is residing there for the foreseeable future.) There are two mighty ruts across the lawn where the dumper has been conveying said soil into the swimming pool hole, which now looks a mite healthier than it did.

Yesterday, for his tea, FIL buttered his bread, smeared it lavishly with Marmite, then added Bleu d'Auvergne cheese. Apparently it was very tasty.
He has ordered his greenhouse and is very much perkier as a result.

Thanks for the recs from yesterday! I am making my way through rather slowly, in between prolonged bouts of ferrying our goods and chattels out of the house into one of the outbuildings, and attending a diabetes study introduction session, and going off for a singout this evening. And suchlike. Life is a bit confusing at the moment—it's hard to remember what day it is!
