FIL purchased a car today. An electric car. Not a truck, yay! We took him to the Mercedes dealer in Bury St Edmunds, where there was apparently a fantastic deal available, and the thing is done. So.

Nice! An electric car is much more reasonable than a truck.

It also, hah, requires minimal car tax to be paid on it. I think the truck was rated at about £1,700 year. Quite the disincentive!

It'll probably do about a thousand miles a year, we reckon. But it will keep him happy.

Well, the house is in development, because he's going to live here with us - we can carve out a bedroom, kitchen, sitting room and shower room downstairs so he won't have to deal with stairs any more, and are extending our building work to make sure we're covered. And FIL has already started cultivating the bottom of the garden, which keeps him happy.

An electric car certainly seems more reasonable than a truck, but - does it make it harder for him to find a house that can accomodate it, or can a regular plug do the job if needs be? *is nosy*

Ah - accommodating the car won't be a problem, partly because it turns out it will just plug in to a regular 13 amp socket overnight, and partly because we're going to knock down the wonky garage and have a new, double one built. We'd already specified a 32 amp charging socket in there (as well as regular sockets) in the expectation that electric cars will be more common in the future.
