Mar. 3rd, 2017 08:04 pmIt's painting week. At least, so we seem to have decided.
Chronologically speaking, I could start with the bra day at M&S, perhaps. I made an appointment for a bra fitting as they were having an Event, showed up early, got seen early, tried on several pretty bras and bought two of them. And, they gave me a box of truffles. I approve.
Then we went back to King's Lynn to check out the proposed dining room light, found it good, and placed an order.
On Shrove Tuesday (which I had forgotten) I ended up eating Pancake Cake, a cake made of the thinnest crepes I have ever seen, about fifty of them stacked with raspberry coulis, and melted Nutella on top. Very nice indeed. This was at the Biddy's Stitch & Bitch, enjoyable as usual although a slightly odd shape as there were New People!
Wednesday, we started on the painting in the ensuite and dressing room. Mist coats, which I had not heard of before, but apparently plaster is thirsty and will drink all the paint if you don't dilute it with water. I wielded the roller on the long pole—ceilings are hard, and the paint splattering is considerable, fortunately I had decided to send a baggy pair of jeans to the charity shop, and instead will be sending them to the tip once they have become entirely encrusted in emulsion. The house was bedlam, with builders, electricians, plumbers and plasterers all on site (inside) and a couple of chaps from Dyno-Rod doing arcane things with the drain that runs under the house.
We painted again yesterday. Second coat is easier, although I ended up doing the dressing room almost entirely on my own as Beast went off to... I dunno, possibly talk to the architect about something. And today we have been working on the garden room, which has a ceiling of interesting shapes and iron bars. So I'm knackered. We took painting out of the list of things we were going to pay for, on the grounds that it's pretty simple and we can do it. And it is, really, quite pleasing to have a bit of actual work invested in the place, as well as what we're paying other people (a fortune) to do.

Date: 2017-03-03 08:46 pm (UTC)yeah, plaster drinks up paint - I'd not heard of the "misting" technique; we always just painted on a 'primer' coat first, before the expensive real paint went on. I bet you'll be very glad when you're done, though it is nice you could tackle that - for the satisfaction, and the savings.
