I had a Useful and Creative day today, or at least, it seemed so. I retouched the parts of the kitchen which were meant to be green and had been smeared with white. I created a canvas in green, white and glitter, to go above the fireplace, and helped Beast with parts of his mission to create usable and soot-free shelves for my cookery books inside the fireplace. Beast also brought me flowers home after his trot into town this morning, so I usefully and creatively arranged those (we had to excavate in the summer house to find a vase). And I even tidied up after myself!

The kitchen cupboard-colour-to-be has been settled, so we must now wait for several weeks for the nice white pieces to be delivered and fitted (sigh). Meanwhile the chaps are making steady progress—the garage lacks main door and electrics, the roof is more than half done, and the post-chimney plastering is drying.

On the plot next-door, several trees have gone and the foundations for the bungalows have been dug out. We are pleased to note that the new application for planning permission has a flat roof, and therefore the magnificent nest to be built there will not actually tower over our house.

The Ombudsman finally came through for us in our complaint against our surveyor, and has awarded us a very respectable sum. \o/

I read "Rivers of London" by Ben Aaronovitch (and cannot now fit it onto the shelves, not having thought to leave any space before Douglas Adams). Fun at first, it definitely engaged me, but somehow lost my attention somewhere in the middle. I'm happy to report that I managed to finish it anyway, which is good progress for me as I've been failing at books so much lately.

I was amused by this list of excellent woman-generated tweets, in particular #10, which had me in tears of laughter.

I mean, I guess a giant maxi pad *could* have its uses...

I just have no desire to think about what those uses might be. *shudders*

Sounds like things are going nicely now. It must feel very satisfying to finally get some things finished, even if they're small compared to the overall job.

Yay for progress!

Shelf space is an eternal conundrum.
