Something else that made me smile ought to appeal to Camp Sparklers and our ilk, and it's a wedding dance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NWgR0M4YuI Take a look.

My kitchen works. Yes, it is done. (Well, okay, there are three drawer fronts and the inside of an oven and one damaged light to be re-fitted, but essentially, it's done.) I spent quite a while trying to figure out where everything ought to go—what a luxury it is to be able to decide where things should go according to how I cook and otherwise use the kitchen, and not according to where they will fit. In the old kitchen, I had tall stuff in a cupboard space for no better reason than that it would not fit in any other space. In this one, things *fit* and can be placed where they belong.
Also, I have seven drawers within reach of my hob. Seven enormous drawers. Nirvana!
So now I have used the hob, the extractor fan, and one of the ovens. And there is a bit of space left for when we get things out of the summerhouse, which will start happening next week after the carpet arrives in the sitting room. O.M.G.

And yes, I spent a week in Yorkshire at Camp Sparkle, yay! I even had the pleasure of Pre-Camp this year, as both
chalcopyrite and
turlough arrived here early and travelled north with us. We had an excellent Thursday, with lunch at The Belgian Monk, a prowl around Norfolk Yarn, and a visit to the cathedral. I'd been meaning to look at the cathedral, but it's one of those things that requires visitors!
Camp. Well. It's Camp, so there are congenial people and unexpected conversations of all kinds. This year there were unexpected Jim Henson movies, a rewatch of Joey Fatone's DWTS season, and no Cards Against Humanity (which seems Wrong). There was also an incredible amount of cake... not that I'm complaining, because cake is good! Flypaper, otoh, is Not Good, but is better than loose flies, of which there was an abundance. And outside, tiny chickens.
I ended up driving the minibus, which fortunately for me was an automatic (I've been driving the Prius for nearly ten years now, and I fear my gear-changing reflexes may not work like they used to). The trip to York was particularly good—Beast and I did the Chocolate experience, which I recommend; found a restaurant that catered for (as far as we could tell) *everyone* with a food exclusion and produced excellent meals; and climbed the 200+ spiral stairs to get a look at York from the upper deck of the Minster. Visited Castle Howard too, which left me with a yen to buy and watch Brideshead Revisited, which I don't think I've ever actually seen in full. And I bought a picture in a little Bridlington art gallery for the princely sum of £20.
Slightly scary to stand on the scales when we got back and find there were five extra pounds, but three of these had disappeared by the following morning (Beast had exactly the same experience), so either our digestive systems had re-settled or we shifted the scales to a friendlier spot on the bathroom floor. Hmm.

It is, I must confess, a great relief to have come back to a separated household. I can buy food in packs of two! I can feed my Beast when it suits me! And nobody is watching me cook.
We aren't totally sorted yet. We have acquired the replaced kitchen bits—several long pieces, a shelf unit and three cupboards with glass doors; FIL wanted to make off with these but I am keeping the cupboards to house some of my Craft Stuff in a slightly more respectable way than currently. Poor Beast has a long list of chores again because I'm not a well-trained user of tools and FIL will make things quickly instead of properly. Beast likes to do things properly, which means quite a lot of attention to detail, which means it takes a while but a person can look at the results with pleasure.
I, meanwhile, had a rather pleasant afternoon designing posters for the chorus's Christmas concert. I hope they will not be rejected by the traditionalists for being too... vibrant. At any rate, it was fun to play with Photoshop again, which I have not done for ages.

Date: 2017-09-30 08:23 pm (UTC)I have located a kitchen design (design ONLY) service somewhere in the locality. I think I'm going to be calling on the local engineer first (as soon as she's back from holiday) to work on the Continuing Damp problems, but another bit of jigsaw has slotted in.
"Congenial people and unexpected conversations" is an excellent sum-up of Camp. :D

Date: 2017-09-30 08:50 pm (UTC)Our day together in Norwich was THE BEST!
If we go to York next year too I will have to look out for that restaurant.
Good luck with the posters!

Date: 2017-10-01 03:46 pm (UTC)Definitely recommend that restaurant. I had a lentil dhal-with-rice thing with fritters, and Beast had a veggie burger and little pots of sides and mathematical chips (cube roots, ahaha!). No animal products, no gluten, no nuts, no worries for just about anyone, and it was delicious. Though I did have to quibble with the cookbook which stated that a tablespoonful was 150ml.

Congrats on the kitchen progress!

Date: 2017-10-02 03:14 pm (UTC)I had so much fun at Camp this year. It's such a great time.
I was tempted by the chocolate experience when we went to York, but passed it by in the end.

Date: 2017-10-07 02:29 pm (UTC)The chocolate experience wasvery interesting and surprisingly fun. There was a lot of chocolate given out, which might not work so well for you—though I admire your willpower!
