Our household has increased by two

We collected our pussycats from the PACT animal sanctuary today. Would you like to see them?


Sable



Sable is a very beautiful, soft little cat, but she is not very photogenic. She is extremely wary, and although she will tolerate being stroked, she doesn't seem to understand why it is done.

On arriving in the Library, she promptly found her way to the beanbag we had snuggled between two sets of shelves, and insinuated herself partly on the beanbag and partly on the shelf. When next seen, if that's the right way to put it, she was hidden in the cardboard box in the next alcove. After that, I could not see her at all until it occurred to me that she was hiding in non-fiction. Behind the books. And at the moment she is in a little black puddle by the door to the garden. I think she may teleport from one secure corner to the next.

Princess Fluffykins



This pretty little girl is a lot more confident, and has spent much of the day prowling about, although she was the one who initially discovered that it was possible to hide behind the large volumes in the bottom shelf. I was a bit startled by an odd rumbling sound as she pushed the sturdy books off the shelf. She has sniffed me a few times and even emitted the occasional noise, and has allowed herself to be a little bit tempted by a feathery thing on a string.

She is also making herself at home with Beast's computer.



They were utterly silent and calm (or petrified?) on the way home, a 45-minute car journey - which was weird, as I have been used to heartrending wails of protest from a cat in transit.

I managed to pet Sable this evening, though she found it all a bit baffling! Fluffy is harder to stroke, but more interested in playing. A reasonable first day, I think!

Ooh, you have kitties again!! They're both so pretty! Sable has such beautiful eyes and I love Lady Fluffykins fluffy tail. Hopefully they will both settle down soon and become happy in their new home.

They are very pretty catkins! And the library certainly gives them a lot more opportunities to look at interesting things than they had at the animal sanctuary.

KITTIES! (Sable in that photo is reminding me of my beloved Ariel who also hid a lot, especially a first) - they both look adorable, and they're so lucky to have come to you. Did they know each other already, or are they navigating New Cat as well as New Human?

They are (probably) sisters, rescued from a place where about a dozen cats were being badly neglected. The animal sanctuary must have done a great job on them, as the six cats I saw in one 'cell' all looked clean and healthy. These two were in with four other siblings/possibly a mum, and were paired up because Sable is more confident when Fluffy is with her. I liked the idea of cats with different personalities, and as we have no noisy home-dwellers (except me, but I mostly caterwaul in the kitchen) I thought we'd be good for a shy cat.

They are - *so* soft and strokeable! I think Sable can teleport.

Black cats in general are notoriously unphotogenic. My cat constantly looks pissed or angry. But he's actually the sweetest catling.

Yes - a furry black pillow with eyes is what we're getting. I don't think Sable ever blinks...

Good news, good news!! You're a cat mommy again!

Sable will come around. Just wait. In six months she'll be attaching herself to you like a barnacle to keep you from leaving her side. This is my prediction.

I hope so! She's so wary at present, I don't know what she may have gone through before she was rescued. But she will tolerate being stroked, and even seemed to like being stroked with the textured glove.

When she's into my lap as I try to knit, I shall... well, I'll probably love it, in fairness.

Princess seems to be settling quite nicely, and takes over Beast's chair when he is not in it. She is also colonising the cat tree. Sable seems to move from corner to corner without ever being seen to move - I'm beginning to think she can teleport.

Sable has legs—well, front paws, at any rate. And a tail! I have now verified the existence of these things, which I had not hitherto seen as she has been doing a cat-loaf impression at all times. She has even been spending time out of corners today, although still firmly pressed against the wall.

Meanwhile, Princess Fluffykins has eaten all the food. Hmm.

It is adding considerable interest to my days, as I note tiny changes in the way they react to us. They're both on top of the library shelves at the moment, sitting next to each other and looking down on us. They are SO cute. I shall have to make more icons.
