So. Beast and I went down to Dorset for a couple of days, to visit a friend from my theatre group days. It was lively to catch up (and argue, politely, the merits of Europe, refugees and so forth). We went also in order to be not far from Southampton on Thursday morning, for we had to collect FIL from his epic boat trip.

I suspect he had a much less dull time than he'd had the previous year, but he obviously wasn't able to cope with so much New Stuff. And he has always been an Eeyore, so I suppose... anyway, it was not long before I was feeling the woe. One can only take so many conversations that involve FIL going sideways and backwards into whatever it is that it has occurred to him to say before he admits that he has forgotten what he wanted to say.

We showed him his newly-wardrobed bedroom and unpacked his suitcases into the washing baskets, then escaped to the supermarket where I nobly forbore to self-medicate with chocolate. I am for the moment keeping to my resolve not to buy it for myself, although skating rather close to the line.

He seemed to have lost his distance glasses, but apparently they have turned up this morning. He has forgotten his routines, and couldn't find his breakfast cereal or bowls this morning. He had made a list, during the night, of things he had to do, but none of us could read it as we went round Aldi this morning. However, we bought a few things, then I sorted him out some lunch while he bewailed his feelings of helplessness. I do sympathise, really, but it irritates me as well—I hope that I deal with helplessness and incompetence fairly kindly, in general, but it isn't unreasonable to be irritated. I don't think. But I do need to vent, and it's not fair to vent to Beast.

I should probably go and talk him through the considerable contents of his two freezers. He has enough food to survive Brexit, at any rate!

And when we got home, there was a small package from me, and when I realised it was from [personal profile] turlough and what, therefore, it must be, I squealed with joy! It is, in fact, magnificently cerise socks, and if it were not for the confusions of this morning I would be wearing them now. Photos will follow.

I'm glad you had a good trip.

I think venting on here is the best thing to do. It does sound like a frustrating situation for all concerned.

Sounds like you'd a good time in Dorset.

It all sounds quite frustrating. Family can be such a bother! You have all my sympathy. And you should totally feel free to vent here. It's what journals are for ;-)

I hope you have better luck trying to photograph those socks than I did. I just couldn't get that colour to show up correctly!
