I think it was Maurice, Horatio and Irma. Maurice was blackmailing Horatio which explains the money, Irma is working for the other company. She was the one that called Razzo. They did it because they all 3 hated Alfred. How it was done was like this. Maurice went in to make sure Alfred was in place. Irma tried to shoot him through the window, but missed and hit the vase. Horatio entered and strangled him
An excellent bit of detective work. Not quite right in every detail, but you spotted the murderer, and Irma destroying the vase (and being the person who called Razzo), and Maurice blackmailing Horatio. Well done!
I suddenly realised we are never told what he actually died of!! So my guess is that it wasn't murder at all, he died of a heart attack. So while everyone is probably guilty of something and I can't decide who's the biggest liar, no one is guilty of murder :-) Which displeases me because I would so have loved to stick it to that slimy little creep Maurice Bindweed!
A good thought, and would be a reasonable explanation for the disarray of Sir Alfred's collar, if he had tried to get air... but, alas, incorrect! Maurice Bindweed is, though, a slimy little creep, and I'm sure he was glad to see the back of Sir Alfred Groat - but I think he was too much of a sneaky type to commit the dreadful deed himself.
