Thank you, people, for the birthday wishes! All much appreciated.
It went pretty well, I think. Considering that the original plan was to have a 10m x 6m marquee in the background, with a bunch of tables and chairs, hired crockery, and as many people as I could plausibly expect to fit into the house and garden, and what we ended up doing was Afternoon Tea for six in a slightly smaller marquee (10 x 4), I think it was good. Also, it rained, sunned, rained, sunned, rained, hailed, thundered, rained, sunned etc all afternoon, meaning that I had less regret for my lost mega-party, which would have been quite soggy.
It was so nice to see my kids, as I'd not seen them since Mother's Day (the day before lockdown started - late March, to clarify for those of you who inexplicably celebrate it in May). Not that Jedi hugs are much of a substitute for actually getting to cuddle them, but hey. Our teas were… okay, but I could have done a better job myself. It had seemed a good idea to have boxed teas delivered, but the first place I tried to contact never bothered to get back to me (after two emails and a phone call), and I ended up getting the boxes from Harriets. They delivered promptly and as promised, but it was a bit uninspired.
I had a grand present-opening ceremony which was very nice. Got a presentation box of Kir Royale from my uncle, a dozen magnificently bright pairs of art socks from my FIL, octopus earrings from my Beast, and a year's worth of chocolate boxes from my daughter! I bought myself some flowers, having spotted pink peonies and pink lilies in Sainsburys, excellent value, and they are all coming in to their full glory now. I put them onto our tea tables for a bit of festivity.
I'm thinking that I might just have that big fat birthday celebration on the occasion of my 23rd (for the fortieth time) birthday. Annotate your diaries accordingly!

Date: 2020-06-09 12:00 pm (UTC)A few places around here deliver afternoon teas, and while they look okay, I always think they're not a patch on what you get in the shops. I guess the settings really do help.
