The Jowl Brassiere

I sometimes find my way to Stephen Colbert's introductions on YouTube. This one contains quite a few gems, but my favourite has to be The Jowl Brassiere, as modelled by a pork-faced Republican apparently wishing to contain his DDD chins. I actually laughed for a full minute.

Also, I am utterly charmed by Randy Rainbow.

Colbert does come out with a few phrases every time that make me snortlaugh! And I enjoy the little giggles from - I'm guessing - his producer and/or cameraman as well.

I thought the photo was so cute! The momma cat looks a lot like Sable - who was (I'm pretty sure) the only black cat in a brood of tabbies.

Splendid! 'Guys and Dolls' is my favourite, but I have much love for such as 'Showboat', 'Kiss Me Kate', and quite a lot of Sondheim. And Gilbert & Sullivan. I was in an amateur musicals group for twenty-five years.

One of my degrees is in drama and I acted for a number of years.

If any local group ever stages 'Kiss Me Kate' I intend to show up and audition for one of the mob boys so I can sing this song:

His wife has been with him a lot too since lockdown so sometimes she's giggling in the background. (They are the most adorable couple.)

My group did Kiss Me Kate a few years ago, and fortunately had an excellent MD who put together a great band for it. I and my fellow middle-aged altos were somewhat miffed to be relegated to our usual corner of the stage by the director (she liked her little girl dancers, but we would have been able to do *something* to 'Too Darn Hot', dammit!). Our gangsters were excellent, and completely enjoying themselves in that number!

I never acted in musical theatre. I can carry a tune but I make no further claims. Still, that's enough ability to play one of the gangsters. :D

My group actually did Sweeney Todd, and I *really* wanted to play the Beggar Woman, which I would have been able to do very well (I think!). I know why I didn't get the part, but it was enormously disappointing.

More than enough to play a gangster. Frankly, I've known plenty of principals who couldn't go *that* far! I was on an audition panel for Oklahoma! and was firm in selecting the less-good singer for Curly, rather than the guy with the voice who otherwise looked as though he was made of wood. The one on the panel who stood firmly in favour of the latter... was blind. But very opinionated!

I started watching him right after the 2016 election and I can honestly say Stephen Colbert has helped me weather These Unprecedented Times. He just gets it. (Though I probably shouldn't laugh at the jowl brassiere. I come from jowly stock myself and -- it's just bad karma.)

Oh, I have at least one more chin than I really need - but then, I don't wear my mask under my mouth!

I've really enjoyed watching the Colbert intros. I should try to do it more regularly.
