May. 20th, 2021 10:35 pmWe went out for a drive yesterday! To the crematorium at Beccles, to collect FIL's ashes.
It was by turns a lovely day for a drive, pelting with rain, and hailing. The countryside looked very pretty in the sunshiny bits of the drive. Hedges with hawthorn blossom, verges very green and laced with cow parsley (plus quite a lot of escape oil seed rape). No hills, this being Norfolk. We passed a "glamping pod" in bright yellow. It seems like forever since I drove anywhere beyond the city (and that, mostly the localmost supermarkets). Could have done without the thunder, though.

We could probably set up our own charity shop, with the stuff from Grandpa's kitchen and his mass of hardly-used clothing. It seems a shame that nobody wanted any of the several dozen T-shirts he had never worn, or the collection of smartish casual jackets. I saved the sweater I knitted for him years ago, and extended the cuffs so that my BIL can wear it, my Boy took a few pairs of trousers, and I took a couple of pairs of very casual trousers, too. Sadly, nobody wanted the parrot shirt I got him to take on his cruise. It wouldn't be so bad if *he* had got good use out of his things, but he wore about two of the T-shirts, two long-sleeved T-shirts, two pairs of trousers, and one unattractive grey fleece. And some of the many pairs of shorts, while he was in Oz. It's also rather sad that he really didn't own anything *nice*, the sort of thing that it would be a pleasure to keep for itself, as well as for sentimental reasons.
Anyway, we carted the clothes off to Oxfam today, the car was *stuffed* and that didn't even include the kitchen items (five boxes—before sorting out electricals), but they were pleased to receive it—which was a relief, as I'd wondered if they would have had so much post-lockdown stuff that they would not be taking any more.

My chorus is having its first in-person sing this weekend. I've not signed up, as we seem to have had rather a lot to do this week and I'm not quite in the mood for it, but I'm hoping to go next weekend. It's irritating that the rehearsals are all elsewhere in a little village, when I have a huge garden and a car park opposite.
