Food, glorious food!

Had a flu jab this morning.

This evening, went out for a meal with Beast and Bun and her Chap. We ate in a lovely Japanese place which I'd not trid before. All of us stared in bewilderment at the menu, trying to decide, and in the end we told the waiter how much we wanted to spend and said, Bring us delicious food! And they did. And lots of it, too! Sashimi and sushi and some magical aubergine thing and soft shelled crab tempura and edamame beans and really good pickles and prawns in a spicy sauce and skewered chicken pieces. And then some slivers of steak, and incredibly good chicken, and hot salmon. OMG. It probably helps that we are all thorough omnivores, but what a feast!

We then went to the theatre, to see a delayed production of A Midsummer Night's Dream performed by two people who must be absolutely exhausted now! It was very clever—there were a few moment when I thought it would have been better to have a couple more people on the stage, but overall it was perfectly clear who was who, and what was going on. The ass's head bit was hilarious, and the Pyramus and Thisbe scene was brilliant! A jolly good evening for my Beast's birthday.

How did they indicate the multiple characters?

By voice, or changes of headgear?

There were sunglasses for Theseus and Hippolyta, fancy headpieces for Oberon and Titania, and sweatbands for the Rude Mechanicals, but otherwise it was all body language (and voice).

A feast indeed. There was actually a pause after the fishy selection, and someone came to ask if we wanted more. I wasn't sure if they were asking if we were ready for more, or wanted to spend more money, or what, so I said if there was more coming that would be fine, but we had had a good meal and didn't need it.

Anyway, the meat dishes turned up after that and were also delicious, so.

Your meal sounds absolutely fantastic! Japanese food is delicious. (Well, not the raw fish :-) And the performance sounds really cool. Wish Beast a belated happy birthday from me!

Funnily enough I am very partial to sashimi - more so than sushi. It was an excellent evening, and Beast says thank you.

I'm thinking of the number of characters in that play and getting exhausted just thinking about it.

Quite a collection, indeed - though a surprising number of female ones (plus they switched a couple of the Mechanicals to female). But for reasons of practicality, Lysander/Hermia were played by woman/man, and Demetrius/Helena by man/woman.

Ooh, that dinner sounds fantastic! It's so fun to get to have mouthfuls of a whole range of different things sometimes. What a great celebration!

It was an excellent way of getting lots of delicious food without having to work out precisely what to order. I'm all for an easy life!

What a fun way to dine, I also would have no idea what to order at a Japanese restaurant, beyond very basic sushi!
