Large machines are invading our territory.

It's for the ground source heat pump. There is to be drilling in the back garden, serious drilling, and Stuff is coming in (from Yorkshire!). Lucky them, working in the constant rain. We have evacuated the car from the garage, our neighbour has let us park next door for the next couple of weeks. Quite a bit of banging, beeping and clattering. It is currently rather difficult to get to our front door!

I discovered the 'reaction vids' at the weekend for Star Wars fans watching the finale of season 2 of The Mandalorian. Which are (a) adorable, and (b) impressive proof of the excellence of the writing. The emotional beats and the plot beats went hand in hand, and worked so, so well. Lots of grown men whooping or weeping, either of which is fair. I did enjoy the experience of seeing how other fans reacted, even though it's a year or so later, and particularly since those are the fans who know Star Wars way better than I do. But the people running that show are uberfans themselves, and they threw in so many references and details that for people like me, make it a richer show, and for people like them, fill it with delight.

I wish I could watch those reaction videos with Someone but I will watch them and be bittersweetly delighted.

That sounds like a lot. Hope the heat pump installation goes well, and fast!

OOH! Do post about how the heat pump turns out.

Ours is air-source and is doing fine so far, but obviously ground source is more efficient. We'd have had to lose a tree and a pond to be able to do that - and there's no easy access to the rear in any case.

Why would it be more efficient to keep it on?

We have a heat pump and we have it set to only come on at night if the room temperature drops below a certain level.

If yours is a radiator system, you may find that even with the lower grade heat, it heats up faster than you expect.

I hope the machines do their thing quickly and then you get to enjoy the benefits of the new pump!

It's a bit of a pity that it's the back garden they're drilling in. I bet it would be fun to watch them. Though I can imagine they're making quite a mess and you don't want that in the nice bits of your garden. I hope everything goes well!

Heat pump! Exciting! Does that mean building work over Christmas, though? Hope the disruption stays firmly outside, and the final system is a dream in operation. (We don't have the garden space for ground-source, even if the freeholder would agree, but I'm contemplating air-source.)
