There are two crows that regularly visit the back garden. I call them WonkyWing and Mate. Beast mowed the lawn yesterday, in the process removing a small part of the 'wildflower' bit on one side. The crows patrolled the entire garden, I swear, inspecting the changes and discussing it all as they went. Overall, I think they were pleased, as they found quite a lot of worms!

Subsequently, there was an altercation with a squirrel. When I refill the bird feeders I leave a small pile of peanuts and suet bits by the pond, for the crows. In which the squirrels obviously take an interest. Well, WW was facing off with a squirrel, which was definitely standing its ground and even making threatening moves. The two of them kept this up for several minutes, until Mate showed up and joined in, at which point the squirrel decided it was outmatched. Quite a little drama!

The crows are really interesting to watch. Sable hid behind a garden pot yesterday evening to watch them as they patrolled.

That sounds like it would have been entertaining to watch! And like you have a yard that wildlife appreciates. :)

Quite a lot of the small birds seem to have disappeared—I hope it's temporary, as I'm used to seeing frequent action from blue tits, great tits, coal tits and robins around the bird feeders. But there are the crows, magpies and jays, as well as the inevitable squirrels. It is interesting!

I do hope the little birds come back. Most of them aren't familiar to me (I'm not sure if we don't have the various tits here, or if I just haven't seen them/recognized them), but I see robins everywhere and I've seen some blue jays in my yard lately :) You have quite a busy yard! It's mostly just robins for me, with the occasional blue jay and rabbits.

Crows are fun birds, also quite intimidating when they swoop into your garden.

I think Sable felt intimidated—she hid behind a pot on the patio and watched them strutting about.

Those crows sound so much fun to watch. Much better than wildlife show on the telly!
