Not sure why I managed to make the pics different sizes, the Chris mugs are the same size, the JC is somewhat taller.

Those are gorgeous! I love the subtle colours, and I've always had a weakness for one-tone photographs, so these are really lovely to look at. And yes, icon, also much with the wheeee! :)

Thanks :-) I was pleased with the way the mugs looked last week, when I'd painted them, but you never quite know what's going to emerge from the kiln - once in a while, the colours smudge or blur a bit, but these worked really well.

The secret's in the carbon paper, really - and Photoshopping beforehand. But they did come out very well. :-D

That's a good idea. Now if only I could decide what it is I want to do... (Difficult without prices to hand, particularly as I really do not need anymore mugs. :) )

A Cunning Wheeze is to paint something for somebody's birthday - that way you get the fun of doing the painting, and don't have to find a use for the Object yourself. I've done smallish square plates; they also have jugs, various, teapots (possibly even the kind that has a matching cup), and piggybanks.

Chris is a really good subject for this kind of thing, with his dark features. I did wonder if the layers of paint would run a bit, but happily, all is well.

I don't think I'm going to be able to resist having a go at Joey, too - Lance and Justin will be more difficult. Chris's dark hair, eyes and beard work really well.

Joey has the right colouring so he ought to look good too, and shaved-head Justin ought to work, he's got a lot of defining bonestructure to use for shadowing. Lance is probably the most difficult. He's all about variances in light and subtle shadings, not the sort of thing that does well with that technique I imagine. As a glasspainting however... I can imagine him looking very good in a sort of Mucha-like style. I think. All of this is purely theoretical speculations of course - the sort I like best :-)

A glasspainting - gibber! Yep, the theoretical speculation is of the good, trying to translate it into actual paint of some kind... is harder.

So very much harder! I well remember my efforts trying to make the results of my sewing match up to the idea I had of how I wanted it to look!

*sighs* Yes, exactly. What comes out on paper/pot/glass is usually pleasing, but never matches the picture I had in my mind before I began.

God, those are great. I love Chris with the red background. It just seems to suit that picture very much.

*smiles* It came out beautifully vivid, too - as you can see from the 'before' shots, when you do the painting, it's pastel in appearance, so you have to visualise what you're going to end up with. This is, of course, much easier when there are only two colours to consider.
