I've been procrastinating about Something For TrickyFish Day, and listening to what's on my iTunes - which, to be fair, is not precisely a mirror of my own musical tastes, but is largely that subsection which I put onto the iPod in the hope that my Dad would be able to listen to it.
So here's that 'first line of random songs' meme, which should give a bit more joy to the, hmm, more *senior* members of my flist than most of the random songs memes give to me! Classic pops, mostly. Have at it.
I'll not screen comments, though.
1. When you walk through a storm hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark.
2. You're everywhere and nowhere baby, that's where you're at
Going down the bumpy hillside in your hippie hat
3. Those fingers in my hair, That sly come-hither stare
4. Ooh I bet you wonder how I knew 'bout your plans to make me blue
5. Who had the boy turning handsprings? crazy to love her, claimed she.
6. Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre, Senoras, senors
7. Stars shining bright above you, Light breezes seem to whisper I love you
8. What shall I write? What can I say? How can I tell you how much I miss you?
9. Woke up one morning half asleep with all my blankets in a heap and yellow roses scattered all around
10. I - I love the colorful clothes she wear, and the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
11. I'm not the guy who cared about love and I'm not the guy who cared about fortunes and such
12. Well no one told me about her, the way she lied
13. The road is long, With many a winding turn
14. Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last, on the ground, you in mid-air.
15. When you're alone and life is making you lonely you can always go ...

Date: 2007-01-31 10:32 pm (UTC)3. Those fingers in my hair, That sly come-hither stare--Witchcraft. I don't know what version you have, but I know it best by Sinatra.
4. Ooh I bet you wonder how I knew 'bout your plans to make me blue--Heard It Through the Grapevine--I think the most popular versions are by Gladys Knight and the Pips or Otis Redding.
7. Stars shining bright above you, Light breezes seem to whisper I love you--Dream a Little Dream--no clue who your version is by, nor can I think of a definitively popular one.
10. I - I love the colorful clothes she wear, and the way the sunlight plays upon her hair--Good Vibrations, The Beach Boys
12. Well no one told me about her, the way she lied--She's Not There, The Zombies
14. Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last, on the ground, you in mid-air.--Send in the Clowns, Anthony Newley from Stop the World I Want to Get Off, or Barbra Streisand, or a bunch of other people
15. When you're alone and life is making you lonely you can always go ... Downtown, Petula Clark
I swear, I'm not that old! I just love old music! (In fact, I don't know if any of those songs came out after I was born)

Date: 2007-02-01 08:17 am (UTC)4. Yes, though I'm surprised you mention anyone other than Marvin Gaye, I didn't know of other versions.
7. Yes. I have it by the Mamas and the Papas.
10 and 12 both correct.
14 Correct, though it isn't from 'Stop the World I Want to Get Off' but from Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music'. As it happens, the version I have on iTunes is by Cleo Laine, but it could have been by so many people...
15. Yes.
Altogether, well done!
