On dragons

I'm thinking, perhaps I should re-think this year's Dragon (and Dwarf!) Challenge. My intention was to open signups on St George's Day (Monday), and have the stories submitted in time to reveal them on D-Day (6th June, and my birthday). But, with the Happyfic Challenge so nicely in progress, as well as the Remix deadline in early May, is that going to mean there are Just Too Many Challenges going on at once?

A feasible alternative seems to be that I open signups on June 6th, with a submission deadline sometime at the end of July. Dear flist, would you be more likely to write a Dragon and/or Dwarf story with that timetable? Or should I stick with the original plan?

It might be because I am not doing anything else, I would be just as happy with the original plan. I have an idea and everything!

I'm good with either plan - more deadlines just mean I write more ...

Not being a writer I don't have an opinion on the dates, I just wanted to wish you a happy Friday!

On the other hand, if we decide to do JuC swap again this year, it'll be June-August. Not that we'd necessarily be fighting for authors, but I just mean that challenges will probably always overlap.

By which I meant, I think you should keep the original schedule. :)

A disenting vote here. I would be more likely to write something if it was a bit later on. Now, ask me in a few weeks when remix is done, then maybe my answer will be different. I find it hard to work on more than one story at a time, but that's just me.

But I will sign up whenever it is, if only to be able to have a dragon icon. :)

I'm like Donna and can only work on one story at a time, but saying that, I'd still keep the original deadline. Challenges will always overlap, and people will juggle things to hopefully write what needs writing for the deadline.

Happyfic stories are being posted almost a month after the deadline for dragons, I know a lot of people who write challenge stories the day before. A month is a luxury.

I vote for keeping the orignal plan, though if you change it - it's not like I'd say "you horrible woman, I'm not doing a story." Because that wouldn't happen. Either way, I'll be doing a dragon story.

And I'm wonderfully rambly this morning so you'll need to excuse me.

I probably won't be writing anything. At least, not unless I end up eating breakfast at a table full of weird people who give me random plot ideas, and there's no way *that's* going to happen between now and June, is there?

I'm fine with either date, but I lean toward keeping the original plan, because that will make it tradition and it's lovely, as well as all the other points people have already made.

I like the idea of the tradition, and since I can only finish stories with a deadline it could be cool. Even with multiple deadlines at once, I'd still have to write a dragon story.

What's you feeling on using a WIP for your challenge? I have one that I've posted early chapters of and then pulled them down because I needed to start over. It centers on a dragon, and having a deadline would force me to go back and finish it. But anyone who read my early chapters of heard my whine about it would know I wrote it, and I know you like the stories anonymous at first.
