Theatricals and Writing, glee all round

Well, phew.
The show is done, and went very well. There's even a decent chance that it broke even, since we sold about 86% of the available tickets - excellent going for a G & S! My head is swelled with praise, even though in watching, I was able to see all kinds of things that I should have put in, and didn't. Was pretty good, though.
I spent quite a lot of last week, and *all* of Friday and Saturday, working on gifts for the cast, a completely unnecessary self-imposed task which, once started, I had to follow through. I made cards for the chorus - glasspainted (on acetate) sailors for the chaps, and lace+appropriately coloured paper or fabric, with little embellishments, for the ladies, to match their dresses. I did some painting at the pottery place last week, four mugs for principals and a platter for our wonderful MD; and six glass suncatchers for the principal couples. Quite literally finished at about 9.15 on the last night - I had to dash back home after the first stint of waitressing duty to finish a few items, then carry everything in and write notes in the last handful of cards after the interval duty!
I ended up taking an impromptu and rather untidy bow after the last curtain call - I guess that means this sort of thing should be choreographed in, another time. It's probably fair for the director to get a bow, as the MD does. Acquired swag in the form of an orchid plant and a CD, G&S selection, to help me choose my next show (!). And a rather astonishing quantity of gift vouchers for our local shopping mall - most unexpected! It is very gratifying to find that the cast really do seem to have had a good time. It's so important that they enjoy the show.
And I find I definitely want to do it again. Mad...
Should have spent all day Sunday writing my
sparklyglee story, but actually, I fell asleep right after lunch and woke up just in time to see the Doctor Who finale repeat, thank goodness. Personally, I liked it - cried, and laughed, and thought, Good. Couldn't keep my eyes open after 1am, so I have been beavering away at my story since I got up this morning, and now it is done at last and sent in, and soon there will be many stories for us all to read, and I get to see whether anyone picked up my prompts, and all will be happiness and joy in popslash land.
This latest story has taken me over the 200,000 words of popslash mark. Go me! Plus, it fitted one of the
fanfic100 prompts without any problem. Sixty-nine stories done for that challenge, seven more lined up to be written (ie with ideas and in some cases partially written). And these days, I don't feel the need to hoard my ideas. I can throw the words into a story, confident that the next words for the next story *will* come along, and how wonderful that is!
Oh yes, and I've made a
thinky_pop community, for the pondering of meta-ish matters and such. Take a look? Any suggestions for the rules and rationale will be much appreciated. I'll start up something in the way of discussion once we've got past the first glorious rapture of the
sparklyglee stories.

Date: 2007-07-04 10:21 am (UTC)I'm really happy to have written so much, and indeed, to have plenty of stories left to tell. I like writing, admittedly, not quite as much as I like *having written*, and my muses are doing very nicely for me.
I hope to be able to start some actual thinking in the new comm, very soon.
