pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Cat Stop Posting)

Meh. I cannot find anyone to read in for this afternoon's audition - at least, we have the female read-in covered, but all the men who might do it seem to be away. No, scratch that! A heroic volunteer has just called me!

Beast and I went to visit his father yesterday, and came home with a bootload of vegetables - freshly picked corn, beans (French and runner), butternut squash, courgettes, pears, rhubarb and if [livejournal.com profile] ephemera had been round to supper yesterday she could have had fresh raspberries. But they won't be here next week!

I visited my Dad on Friday; he was looking a bit fragile, having had an upset stomach and not enough sleep the previous day. Yaya a bit fragile too, painful joints. I always feel quite useless when I visit my pa, possibly because we've always connected in a kind of intellectual way, and he doesn't work on that level any more. Also, he is preparing to convert to Catholicism, which bewilders me.

Cat to vet on Thursday for her regular checkup and jab. Tis wonderful, the contrast between her desperate struggles when at home *not* to be thrust into the cat-carrier, and the way she walks meekly into it when the vet has finished. She has slenderized a trifle, probably because of the rodent-chasing. She got two more last week, neither of which she killed, both of which seem to have died of fright at the sound of my voice upbraiding the cat, isn't that nice. The first was a miniscule creature hiding in the grass next to the washing line. Second time, Boy and I were in the kitchen, for he was cooking supper (Toad in the Hole), and we heard loud squeaks, as of a doggy toy. I investigated in the garden and found a twitching, desperate mouse lying on its back waving its little limbs to the sky, which heaved itself onto its belly and promptly expired.

Beast and I did revision Defensive Driving courses on Tuesday. It's very hard work, driving with intense concentration and an ex-policeman watching everything you do. I was knackered when I got home! But we scored 1.3 and 1.5 (me) which puts us well and truly into the 'Low Risk' category, which is nice. Now, we have to remember a couple of the things we were taught.

Monday night, I was on the bar at the theatre (which is available for a Modern Jive group every week). Since these energetic people mostly want squash and soft drinks, it was a pity that nobody could find the bottles of orange squash, lime cordial and blackcurrant. Sigh. This brief experience also lead me to offer a better way of running the bar's float. We shall see.

And we are gearing up for our Disneyworld holiday. We get there (the Florida one) late on Saturday 6th and depart on Wednesday 17th, so if any of you lovely people will be in the vicinity, maybe we can arrange a rendezvous?

Oh! We will be in Disney World from the 12th to the 15th, leading around all the in-laws and cousins, etc. 17 of us, to be exact. But it will just be my own family on the morning of the 12th (Friday.) We'll be in Epcot, if that works with your schedule. After that, I can make no promises/plans, except that it will be total chaos. =)

We're going to Toronto that weekend - Ash and I are running in a half marathon. Otherwise I so would.

I have a freezer full of corn now too. Enough to keep me going for months I think.

That sounds like such a great holiday.

Between you and Terri I'm now ravenous!

And your holiday sounds like it's going to be fantastic.

What were you auditioning people for this time round?

South Pacific! When I was a kid my mother had it on LP so it's one of the few musicals I (probably - I haven't heard it in 30 years or so) know every song to :-)

Your vacation is making me green with envy - Disneyworld was one of the high points of my US trip 79-80. (Space Mountain, wheeeee!!!)

Thank you very much for the cup of tea on the way home on Sunday evening -- it was all that got up the rest of the way up the M1 :-)

Off topic, but I think [livejournal.com profile] bsb_daily has had some macroable pictures in the past couple of days, if you're still looking for them. :)
