home again
Oct. 18th, 2007 02:31 pmWell, here I am, back.
Bit zombie-like right now, as we had an overnight flight and despite the flat bed (Virgin Upper Class is the way to travel, srsly) I did not sleep at all... urg.
However, it really couldn't have been a better holiday. Early celebration of our wedding anniversary (next April), so Beast and I just treated ourselves, pottering through Disneyworld hand in hand. October is a great time to go, the weather was glorious and the parks comparatively empty, particularly when we got early entry. We did all the parks in a thorough and fairly leisurely way. It is all So Pretty. Did the best bits twice, or even more; did Expedition Everest once, which was *much* too often - I cannot say what it was like, as I spent the latter two thirds with my eyes tightly shut, my mouth wide open, and every muscle rigid with terror. I do not like swift descents. Admittedly, my own fault for not figuring that 'Everest' would mean 'high', and that 'high' would mean 'comes down steep and fast'. However, the other stuff was great! It was really nice to have the leisure to look around at stuff like the fountain-in-concert at Epcot, and the unexpectedly informative bits in the Magic Kingdom. And being able to meet up with Missy amidst her Mega-Family-Expedition was a little extra touch of pixie dust atop the whole thing.
We sneaked off to Seaworld for a day to pat dolphins and watch whales decide not to do their standard tricks, heh. And to Universal (Wolfie!), for a lot of fun that was not so relentlessly tinselly. ("This ain't Disneyworld, kid. I don't have to be nice to you.") I adored the 'Men in Black' ride, and killed many bugs. We didn't have much time in Islands of Adventure park before our shuttle was due, but gazed in horror upon the naked rollercoaster (no, no, no, I mean, it wasn't hidden behind Artful Landscaping, Disney-style, you could *see* the people hurtling about upside-down), and did the fabulous Spiderman simulator ride. Very clever stuff. We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour, which was fascinating, and celebrated my Beast's 50th birthday with a pixie-dust-sprinkled dinner at the top of the Contemporary, and watched the Hallowishes fireworks - even cleverer than the 'Wishes' fireworks which we'd seen on Saturday - from the observation deck there. Fantabulous.
Also, someone else seems to have paid for our six nights at the Boardwalk Inn. Bwahaha! We'd thought the room payment would appear on our final bill, but it didn't, so we pottered round there on our last day and suggested they might like our money. Well, there was a locked folder, or something, so they couldn't take it—best they could figure was that it had been charged to a group... I dare say the charge will turn up on Beast's credit card at some point, but for now, it was Free! As the lady said, Happy Birthday!
I'm hoping there won't be too much cosmic payback for a holiday where we seemed to be blessed with good luck all the time. The first bit is in already, some nasty medical issues for my Dad. Boy is not yet home from his toiling at the warehouse...
So. What did I miss?

Date: 2007-10-20 04:48 am (UTC)And I remember the Halloween fireworks! Heee! We were.... ...hell, I have absolutely NO idea which park we were in. Ummmm, probably Magic Kingdom, castle in the middle, and.... ...nope, no idea. It all runs together in my head, lol. Ask Donna or Charlie. *g*
But YES, Disney is quite wonderful. You DID do the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, yes? Expensive unless you choose NOT to try lots of things, but soooooo good!!
And Happy Birthday to your Beast and Happy Early Anniversary to you both!

Date: 2007-10-20 08:34 am (UTC)The fireworks were terrific! How they manage to get things to burst into a heart shape, or a star shape, or a smiling pumpkin shape...!
Food and Wine, yes, yum! We grazed our way through it on a couple of occasions, buying something at most of the stands, but usually just one thing, and sharing it, lots of little delicious nibbles. And my Beast having a birthday proved useful - I'd spotted Fried Ice Cream and been unable to have any, early on, and Beast found a stall in Epcot selling it. Well, for some reason the stall couldn't take his room card in payment, and as he was wearing his birthday badge, he got it free.
