So, I'm just wondering, how is it that so many people who write boy-turns-into-girl fics seem to think that a boy's jeans will just slide right off a girl's hips? Because, no!

I just read a (really cool) AJ-as-girl story, in which girl!AJ had to have a belt to hold up his jeans. AJ. Who practically *has* no hips. Now, if she'd been unable to pull them up over her newly-feminine hips, that would have made sense. No doubt a female version of AJ Maclean would be small and wiry and not endowed with lush curves like, say, a female Nick would be (cor!), but there are certain fundamentals, if you'll excuse my saying so, of feminine anatomy, and one is that the hips *exist*.

So, peeps. What's with the hipless wonders?

That's weird. I guess I could maybe see it if there was going to be a significant change of build. Like, if Joey turned into a tiny slender little girl, obviously all his/her clothes would suddenly be huge. {pauses to boggle at this idea} But AJ? To have any narrower a pelvis than he has already, he'd need to lose a few internal organs.

Unless, I guess, he lost a lot of height, too, and got proportionately tinier all over. At which point, he'd be about four foot six. Or...are you sure he didn't turn into a fairy? Were there maybe some gossamer wings mentioned? :-)

Fairy!AJ would be quite an entertaining little piece, but no, not in this case. And I quite agree - he'd need to lose a few internal organs, but as a girl, he'd actually have gained a few.

I think it's coming from girls who assume men are always bigger than girls no matter what. I'm not sure if that's because they're tiny little girls or all the guys they know are huge.

But yeah. If a man's shirt fits me, his jeans sure as hell won't.

Yep. I mean, I steal my man's boxers once in a while, but while they're comfortably loose on him there certainly isn't a lot of spare capacity for me!

What we need are measurements! That'd stop this. Also, it would make it clear whether or not Lance and JC could share pants. (I vote NO!)

I vote no as well. Lance has buffed up and toned down, but there's no hiding that he has a great ass. JC's attributes, while many, aren't in the curvy-backside department. JC's gotta be wearing smaller pants.

But I'll volunteer to take the measurements! :D

It is my personal belief that JC has his pants stapled to his body in order to ensure that they stay up when he's not pleased to see someone most of the time. If he wore Lance's, well.

In my head if AJ ever turned into a girl he'd have hips like Pink, ie, not many curves. In fact, he'd have a body just like hers, really, with tiny boyhips and some quite nice boobs.

I have to use this opportunity to use my new icon.

I don't read many turns-into-a-girl stories but I do read some and I can't remember ever coming across this. T-shirts being stretched out of shape, yes, but nothing really about trousers.

I spose a girl might well stretch a T-shirt a bit... and yet... women tend to have smaller rib cages than their 'equivalent' men, so it'd depend on, er, cup size whether anything got stretched, I think. I'd imagine a girl!AJ as minimal in that department, whereas girl!Joey would be splendidly endowed.

Pfuh, that's that whole nonsense about hot guy size =/= hot girl size. I think it's quite hard to avoid, although I've seen some really good genderswitch stories that addressed it.

Yep, sometimes the stories do address the matter - oddly, the very next one I looked at after the AJ one which brought this back to my attention had girl!Kevin unable to fit into her/his trousers.

mmm I see your point there, but as a girl that LOVES gender bender fics, it might have to do with the fact, that eventhough we switch the genders it's still hot to think that our boys will look still mannish as women.

It's hot (at least to me it is) to see boys dressed as girls. Don't ask me why it just works for me.

So maybe in an attempt of not loosing that man side of the characters we tend to say that the now girl is hipless or something like that.
Of course it gets worse with AJ, who is skinny as hell and after all there are women who have no hips. Those kind of women that you stare at them from the back and you swear they are men and when they turn around no! they are women.

I don't know if this makes sense or not...
But I do love gender benders. Those are my favorite kind of fics I must admit.

It's just that it seems weird to me that so many of the writers - who are, I expect, female - seem to be unaware that girls have hips! Yes, sure, there are some girls with very skinny hips, but if they're in for an exploration of "what's different when you're a girl" going for the no-hips type seems an odd choice... Not every woman needs a bra, but we don't tend to get stories where the newly girlified boy has breasts that are barely there.

I think it makes sense to translate body type across gender in a recognisable way—so that, say, Chris ends up curved and cuddly, JC becomes slender and model-shaped, etc. I do see the appeal of having the characters still quite boyish, but for me, it works better if they're more definitely women.

Yea, he'd never get his guy pants over his thighs, forget keeping on the hips. I think maybe people think that because the girls who do wear guy's pants were the druggie high school kids who bought pants 3 sizes too big, so they sagged. *shrug*

Plus, I know I'd never fit in JC's pants, having seen a pair! So skinny, omg.

To be honest, genderbendy fics are the one genre I really can't bring myself to read.
