pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Default)
Thank you to [personal profile] sperrywink and [livejournal.com profile] musiequedevie for the cards, which the postman brought to me post Christmas Day but still well within the official Twelve Days. :-)

My New Year Resolutions:

1. Don't buy myself chocolate. I've kept this one for two years in a row now. I'm still tempted, but I can say to myself, "I don't do that any more" and be right. If anyone out there is marvelling that it is even possible, do note that I have not said (and never will say) Don't Eat Chocolate. If someone else gives me chocolate, it's entirely within my rules for me to eat it.

2. Eat better: by which I don't mean dieting, I mean, quality. I want to try to buy more of our meat from the local butcher, who sells actual free-range pork instead of the cunningly-packaged 'outdoor bred' stuff at the supermarket, which I suspect means 'and then brought inside to live in a box'. I want to try to buy more vegetables from the local markets, possibly have a go at getting some organic veg delivered by the milkman, and so forth. The pleasure of being able to eat fresh, entirely organic vegetables I had grown myself was considerable, so this year I think there will have to be lettuce as well, and whatever else I can think of that doesn't require too much actual effort. Anyway. Better, tastier, more ethical food.

3. Do more recs. I keep thinking vaguely about filling a [community profile] fancake prompt with something from the wonderful world of popslash, and hardly ever have. Time to do better.

4. Podfics - I enjoy these, and should at the very least finish the two part-recorded stories I have on my desktop.

I think that's enough.

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Twice Around the Prompts This was my own entry for the final Dragon Challenge, the one where it was Dragons, Dwarves, Dolphins, Diamonds and Demons. For reasons passing understanding I had a late inspiration to write a kind of round dance of little stories, so there is a progression of pairings and quite a contrast from one to the next—friendship, porn, AU, crack and so forth.

The link starts at An Association with Dolphins, and each one is linked to the next in the line.

Strangers - something I wrote way back in 2005, but I believe it's a unique pairing, and perhaps more amusing than regular popslash for people who don't follow my beloved fandom. Lance Bass/Ian McKellan

One of my favourite popslash stories ever is The Earl of Rothinghamtonfordshire, by Jae, in which Nick Carter writes a book. Well, fifteen pages isn't really—anyway, I have such love for this that I podficced it a while back. The story is so awesome, I had to keep stopping the recording to tell my cat what a great story it is. It really is.

Well, 'tis done. I have read and sent feedback to all the MTYG stories that I didn't write.

Haven't received any feedback in almost a week, which makes me sad. Where are all the readers?

In other matters, my nephew was very pleased with the interminable sweater I knitted him.
And isn't he handsome! )
