I spent quite a bit of yesterday carrying buckets of bricks downstairs.
Among other things, we are having the chimney removed down to ground level, which means disruption in our bedroom and in the sitting room. The chimney breast in our bedroom is actually hidden within the rather nice run of fitted wardrobes, and Beast attempted to remove the wardrobes, only to discover that there are various bits glued together which would never be the same if he managed to rip them asunder. As the space available is therefore somewhat constrained, he volunteered to do the work of getting the bricks out, and asked me to help by clearing them out of the room, one bucketload at a time. I dunnamany bucketloads that meant, but I have an odd red spot on the left side of my belly where I balanced the buckets, and several scratches on my arms. It was warm work (especially with a dust mask) and I was in my T-shirt.
At four thirty I went on strike and headed for the gym for a refreshing swim (helped to get the brick dust out of my eyes), a few minutes in the sauna, and a nice shower. For with impeccable timing, we had removed the shower tray from the downstairs bathroom the day before the chimney began to come down, and have not yet had time to replace it with the new, larger one. So there was nowhere in the house for a shower.
Today, I have been quite efficient and done a newsletter as well as a yoga class. It snowed! Quite serious flakes, and the car was well covered in a slushy layer, but the snow ceased coming down while I was at yoga, and has not started again so far, although there is a fair chance of it later on.
We are now down three rooms due to building work (dining room is partitioned, our bedroom and sitting room are full of chimney dust and empty of furniture). We moved into the main spare bedroom last night, and hope it will be a while before we have to be evacuated from there... but there is now nowhere to sit except in the bedroom or at the computer. Sigh. And I wish to finish my purple sweater!
