Hmm. Interesting. Not the phenomenal thing Joey's paso was (though for my money, Lance's first dance was way ahead of Joey's). Fun to watch, but... well. I hope Lance's style is going to improve - hell, I hope and trust he won't be kicked off the show just yet, I love my weekly dose of JLB - I'm just wondering if the two of them spend so much time on doing a fun and dynamic routine that details like Lance's posture and precision aren't being worked on. It's a little confusing, having had two dances in the first week, and apparently, short rehearsal time for this dance, so possibly it's a bit early to ask Lance to look more like a ballroom dancer. At the moment, I think he's faking it very well.
Len is being spectacularly unhelpful. It's weird, and this week his judging comments were pretty nasty, I thought. I still don't get his problem with the cha cha cha, which I thought was very much a cha cha cha (and seeing it on 'Ellen' with different music emphasized the fact); the quickstep wasn't quite as tidy as it ought to be, and this paso was a bit disappointing in terms of the emotion conveyed (or, more accurately, not conveyed). But I'd expect Len to point out something that Lance should be working on, you know, concrit, and for the first two dances, he just said, in effect, "I didn't like it". And the Ls are being ambitious with their routines, and Lance is doing his share of dancing - he's not just a decorative post for his partner to display against - which I'd say deserves a bit more credit than being dismissed so rudely. I shall watch the whole show (last week's second one, I assume) on Friday, and see whether Len gives actual critique to other couples.

Date: 2008-09-30 02:34 pm (UTC)It seems quite uncharacteristic of Len to be so unhelpful. I haven't watched the show regularly, but I remember him giving Joey precise pointers, and suggestions for how to improve. He hasn't done that *at all* with Lance. It's been "I don't like your posture", instead of "Your bum sticks out, wear tails!"
I've often thought the music on DWTS is rubbish! L&L's cha cha cha was, well, it surprised me but I thought it worked and it was actually quite cool. The quickstep music was very meh, didn't seem to have any actual quicksteppiness to it. And this was very peculiar - given the music they had to work with, I thought the routine made sense. In fact I don't see how they *could* have gone for a traditional paso with that music!
As long as Lance and Lacey stay in, they have a chance to improve their scores. Let's just hope they have enough fans to keep them there until, well, until Lacey gets the choreography balanced right. That said... I don't see a vast gulf between what she's doing with Lance and what the others are doing. This show is all about the flash!

Date: 2008-09-30 02:58 pm (UTC)The music generally sucks and that was a horrendous song choice on several different levels. We'll see what happens next week.
I don't get why Len is so rude to one of the most likable people in the entire world.

Date: 2008-09-30 03:54 pm (UTC)Lacey seems to be a polarising choice as a partner - there's a vast reserve of Lacey-hate on TWOP, but presumably she also has a fan-base.
I don't see why Len had to be so rude, last night, at all. Really not cool.

Date: 2008-10-01 07:16 am (UTC)It seems strange that Len is being so rude and unhelpful, unless it's a behind-the-scenes ploy to increase support for Lance? I hope Len behaves better next week.
I had real issues with the song choice. That made me quite angry.

Date: 2008-10-01 09:45 am (UTC)I really don't know about that song... It was ridiculous as a Paso Doble, but it may have been something they asked to have used at some point. Stupid choice, though.

Date: 2008-10-01 11:58 pm (UTC)I'm surprised that he said he wouldn't dance with a male partner because ballroom dancing is traditionally between a man & a woman, yet he doesn't want to dance the dances in a traditional fashion. Yeah, I like what he does (or at least I like watching him whirling around in tight pants and sleeveless shirts *G*), but I think he would be better off IF he really wants to win doing more traditional dancing. If he's just there to have fun, well, whatever then.
I really would like to see the judges be more helpful with him as well, more than YAY! or NAY!, give him some pointers! I think Lacey would be much more helpful if she was more *Dance Instructor* and less *

Date: 2008-10-02 07:55 am (UTC)I have only had a chance to watch one of the complete shows so far, but I'm wondering exactly *how* different what these two are doing *is* from what everyone else is doing. There was plenty of dance content in all the numbers they've done so far. Am I right in thinking they have to do a Viennese Waltz next week?
Lacey definitely needs to be 'in charge' of Lance, not a co-conspirator. She's supposed to be the one who's teaching him and making him improve. She should, for instance, have ironed out that hip-hoppy element in the paso, because they didn't need it for the dance they did. I think they're adorable together, but...
Then again, I am beginning to be convinced that Len's outrage is largely fake. If they're under orders to whip up some kind of controversy, I really hope it's not going to lead to them being voted off early.
