Well, the show is over, so no more putting on tights and wigs to stand under the stage lights in the ridiculous heat. Not for a while, anyway. It went, in the end, very well—could have done with bigger audiences but we broke 500 so we should be easily into profit. Sadly, I no longer have reason to perform The Alto's Lament, a duet mostly unappreciated by audiences who don't realise we're singing the harmony lines in it. (Check it out on YouTube, it's brilliant.) However, my Modern Day Matilda poem was a success: someone phoned me to ask if she might borrow it to read at some kind of mini-performance, and somebody asked if I would whip him, please. Hmm.

I was pondering, last week (as we moved Bun into her new, superior flat), how the windows on the Gherkin are cleaned. I'm really hoping for regular emissions from the top, so that water runs down all over it, but I suppose if that were the case it probably wouldn't be referred to as the Gherkin. How does such a building get cleaned?

Loafing today (I nearly fell asleep in front of my computer after lunch), apart from the new Body Balance routine (which features Kris Allen singing Live Like We're Dying as the Strength track). We have started watching the DVDs of Lie to me, which are quite fun and very much along the same lines as Bones in terms of implausibility. Not, so far, such a likeable team, but still enjoyable.

I like Lie to Me. It's one of those shows I let build up on the DVR and then watch in a bunch because while I enjoy it it's not a must see.

Now I'm going to imagine water cascading down the Gherkin again, because that's fun.

I am saddened to have to reveal that Gherkin window-cleaners merely abseil down from the top, squeegeeing as they go. It's not a bad story, I was just rather taken with the notion that the place would, er, emit a fountain of soapy liquid.

None of the Alto's Laments I could find on youtube were duets, so was your version different somehow? Either way, it's very entertaining.

That is by far the best use for Live Like We're Dying I've heard. :D

We sang the same song, but split it up a bit and mocked one another with props. It's very clever, but works best if you *are* an alto, so audience response was usually a bit muted.

I did not whip him, having at the time no suitable implement to hand. I'm a little disturbed that my reading of the story of Matilda should have stirred such feelings, but I suppose it takes all sorts. Perhaps I should show up at rehearsals with a riding crop in future.
