A Pirate Horror.

Well. Some of you may have noticed my impassioned cry of woe earlier on. You see, at about 4.30pm I had a call from my leading man to say he'd just sliced open his hand, to the bone, on broken glass, and was being speeded off to hospital.

Curtain up at 7.30.... I spent the next hour and a half phoning people to ask if there were anyone available who'd played Frederic recently... couldn't find anyone.

So I did it. Dan sang (beautifully!) and I stuffed the dialogue up my sleeve and went on as Frederic. Fortunately our regular Frederic is a big lad, and his costume fitted me quite nicely!

It actually went rather well.

But. Meep!

Well it's horrible that he got hurt, however, it's pretty badass that you went on instead. :-D

It was kinda scary, performing a role I had never actually rehearsed, but all things considered it turned out to be a good solution.

I hope he's going to be OK--it all sounds very painful.

Poor kid has to have plastic surgery on his hand either today or tomorrow - he wants to put it off until Sunday so he can finish the run, but we'll have to see whether that's possible. He turned up at the interval with his arm in a firm and impressive sling, and we wouldn't let him go on because he'd lost a good pint of blood, etc. All very scary.

I feel like there should be a Hat of Carrying On (of appropriate fabulousness), so you can wear it in celebration. Go you!

(Hope he's all right and tell him not to do that again anytime soon.)

It seems he gashed himself while washing up glasses at work - one of those times when you just want the last five seconds back so you can NOT DO THAT. Poor kid.

He had his surgery first thing this morning - fortunately no tendons damaged - and went on tonight with his arm in a scarlet sling!

It was a bit terrifying but also surprisingly good fun - it ought to be the stuff of nightmares, going on stage to perform a role you have never rehearsed, but I did pretty well.

Ahaha! I don't think there were pictures of me all kitted out as Frederic, but if I have to do it again, I'll be sure to take some! Mercifully the video was done last weekend.
