Today's singing lesson was hard. I *sang* just fine, but Dan now wants me to put some feeling into it, and that is a real challenge. I don't think I am comfortable deliberately trying to express emotion that way - I'd much rather hide it.

So. It'll be interesting.

It's so cool to follow your singing journey on here. Imagine the freedom of just letting yourself totally get into the emotion of the song! You can interpret the lyrics in a way no one else can...because they aren't you! And, the risk is miniimal because (assuming you didn't write the lyrics) you aren't really exposing yourself...just the emotion of the song! This could be so cathartic if you tend to keep things in...it would be like releasing the pressure valve just a little to let out some steam :) Don't hide, bb! Let it all hang out!!

My singing teacher asked me to write down an emotion for each phrase of the song... and that, too, is something I don't do. I write stories, and I generally wouldn't put, say, "Clara was miserable", I'd write something else, like, "Nobody saw her smile from that day onward" instead. So even isolating an emotion is going to be... interesting.

It will depend on what I'm singing, though. Ave Maria was really hard to do! My Man's Gone Now will be much more approachable.
