In a rarely-precedented fit of housewifeliness, I hoovered downstairs today.

The hoover* emitted smoke.

Hmm.

In other news, now that I haz a iPhone, what apps do I need? Tell, pray tell.

* actually it's an Electrolux but who cares

Instapaper, you set up a little account and then you can save any article (fic as well, although, alas, not ones with warning pages) to your phone to read later. I sprang for the paid version, I use it constantly, but the free one is fine.
Echofon is great for Twitter, to which I'm addicted.
Stanza, for access to free books (out of copyright) and to buy others, although I find ebooks ridiculously pricey. Very readable format.
Weatherbug or Weather Underground is better than the stock weather app.
Wikipedia app is not bad.
Tonepad is adorable.
The Google app is great for voice searches, otherwise don't bother.
Paid app, Hipstamatic is lovely, it takes weathered 70s photos.

I haven't looked up from mine since October!

Ours is a Vax but I still call it a hoover and hoovering. The husband calls it the vacuum cleaner which, for some reason, drives me nuts.

It does! He's very strange and very Scottish. I think me calling it the hoover when it's a Vax annoys him, but I refuse to say "Vaxing" as it just sounds too weird.

OH MAN.

My hoover did that to me once.

Not a fun thing.... Or did you just have THAT much stuff that had to be hoovered? ;-)

Hoover is such a funny word, the more you stare at it the sillier it looks. :D

Welcome to iPhone ownerdom! You should get PingChat! 2 which will allow you to text people with iPhones for free. :D

Hipstamatic is an awesome and fun camera app. Shazam will recognize songs off the radio! IMDB is, well, IMDB. iBooks is really cool, you can add PDF files (of course the font needs to be huge in order to actually see it, but still) to it -> fic on your iPhone!

Plus of course you must get the lightsaber so you can join the battles at Camp. :D

How could you forget Words with Friends??? Play Scrabble with Camp Sparklers! :D

I second Noora's recs of the lightsaber and Ping (OMG YAY TALKING) and Hipstamatic. Stanza is my favourite app for reading on the iPhone, and you can download free texts from Project Gutenberg (and some not-so-official catalogues, ahem). Wikipedia is handy when you need to solve arguments. File Viewer is a paid app that I use to read fic on, it works best if you save fic in Word docs, because then the app eliminates those pesky huge margins that you get when you view PDFs.

I also have a vuvuzela app (BECAUSE I WANT ONE OMG), and there's a free drums app called DigiLite where you play a drumset on your phone. There's lots of free and fun apps, I downloaded a whole ton of them and then it took me a few weeks to cull which ones I wasn't that enthusiastic about.

I forgot Words with Friends BECAUSE IT FORGOT ME. OMG TEAR~~~

Seriously though it won't work for me anymore, which sucks because it was so awesome when it did work. And no, it doesn't have anything to do with the iOS4 because it started malfunctioning even before that :(

You gotta get Angry Birds! Do you have Angry Birds?? Angry Birds is amazing. I LOVE ANGRY BIRDS!

Okay, calming down. Seriously, though. Get the Angry Birds game. You will become seriously addicted. You will also laugh because it is a hilarious game!

That's true, Angry Birds is awesome. Ooh, and Robot Unicorn Attack, which is crazy addictive and plays Always by Erasure over. and over. and over. (It's awesomer than I just made it sound.)

In our house, that sort of thing meant that we needed to remove vast amounts of hair from the twisty bit. Which is one of many reasons why I eventually shelled out a fortune for a Sebo, which has a button allowing you to remove the twisty bit quickly with no need for a screwdriver. It's slightly more likely that we will clear it out before the hair catches fire now.
