So I had a go at posting with the new beta of the Create Entries, but was baffled when I tried to figure out how to turn on the cross-post. Also, I remember a much prettier version with boxes you could open or close, which I thought was awesome. What am I missing?

Spent quite a lot of this evening singing soprano, which was more fun than I would have expected. It's kinda nice to be audible. And sopranos don't get a lot of help with learning the notes, since it's usually the tune—we sang some new pieces which I'd never heard before, including "Who knows where the time goes" arranged for SATB, and a pretty Rutter carol, and I do like learning new music without having it drummed into me.

What do six-year-old boys like to play with? I'm a bit out of touch, and picked out a six year old from the local charity Christmas Tree. I found him a hat shaped like a dragon, but can't help feeling he'll want a toy, too. Any suggestions?

I thought I was in the beta testing group but since I can't notice any differences I'm probably not. Oh well.

I do like learning new music without having it drummed into me.

It's so dull having an alto line that's basically the same three notes repeated over and over because the people who don't read music need to keep hearing it. So for a change, I'm enjoying the tune!

Legos or Lincoln logs are always good, as are anything to do with coloring or motor vehicles (I've yet to meet a little boy who didn't like big trucks).

I found a good shop with a bunch of these things and have bought him a vehicle. :-)

like mickeym says, vehicles are usually winners for boys that age. the hat sounds terrific, and I often include a book with kid gifts like this. (I'm also 'adopting' a couple little boys off the giving tree this year)

I found a nice car, and also bought the first Winnie the Pooh book—not sure whether children like WtP these days, but as I love mine still, it's worth a try.

My nephew is around that age and he loves anything from the movie Cars. In fact, I've found cars/trucks in general never go wrong.

The Cars merchandise all seems to have at least a £5 premium, not surprisingly, but I found a nice radio-controlled one that was really good value.
