That writing meme
Dec. 31st, 2011 12:34 amI've done this writing meme several Decembers in a row now, though usually when I am procrastinating over MTYG or waiting for the stories to go live, or something...
This year's output:
The Pussycat and the Porcupine - last year's MTYG story, but I don't include my MTYG stories in these memes as the reveal hasn't happened yet.
Checking for Titanium, a Kradam story, was actually written last year for a holiday exchange, but only appeared in my journal in January this year.
My Trickyfish Day story, Picture Perfect
Different Harmonies written for the Brave Author challenge, back in March
Feast, probably the longest story of the year, was written for the Cockbert Big Bang and involves Adam Lambert and Lance Bass inviting Cheeks into their bed (and kitchen table, etc).
And my Remix, As You Like I Love You (being the first part of The History of Justin Timberlake), written in blank verse.
To be fair, I do have a few thousand words of a Lance/Adam AU sitting on the laptop, but I realised it was in a mess and haven't really settled in to work on it for a few months.
It's a meagre crop, indeed.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Much, much less than I would have expected, or wanted. I really need the encouragement from my fandom, and this year it just hasn't been there.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?
Well. Hmm. Not much, really. I've probably covered a couple of pairings during the year that I hadn't written before, but I don't think I did anything really new.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Probably Feast, in which Lance and Adam invite Cheeks into their bed. That one was fun.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Don't think so.
From my past year of writing, what was...
Best story
I… honestly don't know if I would nominate one.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe
Hmm. Trickyfish Day fic?
Most fun
Feast, I should think. Had a lot of fun with that.
Most disappointing
There wasn't a story that actually I wasn't pleased with—my biggest disappointment is forgetting to write any...
Most sexy
Quite probably my Brave Author story, Different Harmonies.
Story With a Single Sexy Moment
Don't know.
Hardest to Write
I remember struggling quite hard with Different Harmonies, mostly because I had written something a lot like it years before, Practice, for Turlough's birthday back in 2006. But I did manage to get this one to be different, in the end.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
A Remix in blank verse? I dunno, I think once you've gone Lamp, nothing else is ever that bad again.
Most Unintentionally Telling
Er… don't think anything was, particularly.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I want to write again. I feel knotted up when I don't get some fic out, so I intend to do more in 2012. Maybe I'll even sneak out an original story, or something. It's difficult to say—it's still my pop boys I most want to write about, but I do find that lack of fannish interest a real disincentive. Writing is hard, and I want my payback!

Date: 2011-12-31 01:34 pm (UTC)Also, yes, we both need to write more. I don't even feel justified in doing a writing meme as I only finished writing 1 (yes, ONE) fic this year, even though it was 50,000+ words, but still. Need to write more!
I hope popslash perks up a bit in 2012!

Date: 2011-12-31 07:25 pm (UTC)I dropped my Dragon Challenge this year, since last year there were only three participants, and it's a shame—if I'd kept it, at least I'd have had a deadline. On the other hand, I was directing a show at the time so it might have been a bit much to deal with!
I hope popslash perks up a bit, too. We had a sudden burst of awesome canon before Christmas, so the Boys and the boys are giving us a bit of help.
