pensnest: four fancy chocolates (Chocolate the consuming passion)

I am not gruntled.

I have a nasty cold, so my head is basically solid and I am, for the moment, a mouthbreather. Meh.

Fancake's theme for the next however long is going to be novel-length stories, which means I'm not going to be clicking on any links because I don't have any inclination to invest days reading a novel—quite probably a *mega* novel—about characters I don't recognise or feel any particular inclination to read a novel about. I've followed [community profile] fancake links to short stories which look intriguing, but novels? Meh.

My cockbertbigbang story is meandering. I like it, but it's awfully self-indulgent, and there's no sign of them having any sex yet. Meh.

On the up side, went to Norwich yesterday and had lunch with the Brats. Bun drove very competently, although she is a bit nervous of parking, which is apparently a requirement of the test these days. She is actually pursuing possible employment, and even Boy is showing some inclination towards earning some money, which would certainly be nice. Bun gave me my Mother's Day present early, and it is a selection of excellent chocolates. I've given them into Beast's custody, and am allowing myself two a day—which doesn't seem to be triggering my chocolate addiction, particularly. Not that I can taste them, of course. And I still haven't bought myself any chocolate this year. Go me!

We're watching Torchwood: Miracle Day every day at lunchtime. It's almost completely unlike the Torchwood of season one, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm not surprised I haven't seen a lot of fannish comment about it, although the quantity of naked gay sex did surprise us both. I await with trepidation the resolution of the plot, having little faith in RTD's ability to make sense of it all at the end of the season.

I am hoping that fancake gets some posts for 60k+ pieces in fandoms I already know I like (or am willing to try) where I can take the novel as an ebook on my phone. I always have library books there, too, but that's what I like about the novel length fics. But if I have to read them purely online? Not really going to happen generally.

Anything on AO3, definitely. I find that browsing to the pages on my iPhone lets me pick the ebooks up easiest. The iPhone will cheerily put it into either iBooks or Kindle depending on the format offered, so I've always got a book on me to read, just in case I'm caught waiting somewhere.

What I want is an iPhone app which lets me take a web page offline as an ebook... there must be one out there, right?

Or in case I'm spending five minutes walking across campus... because yes, when I was in high school I was that girl who walked between classes with her nose in a book. I haven't changed in twenty-some years, either.

I hope you feel better!

I don't generally like longer stories so I will probably be skipping most of fancake this month too, even for the fandoms I read.

yes! hurts a bit but the relief is worth it.

sometimes a rest is all people need. i always eat lots of spicy food and pasta. possibly 'cause it's meant to be exothermic food./dr.kira

There were episodes of Miracle Day that I really liked, but it ended up being one of those shows like Mad Men or Breaking Bad or even The Good Wife, where I watch it every week and think it's well done, but am not particularly compelled to squee about it on the internet.

I hope you're feeling better today.

I got toblrerone for mother's day. I keep eyeing the box but it's really not breakfast food.

on the good side, fancakes has just pointed me at a novel length Sharpe/Temerarie cross over, so - I'm about to try out their 'download as ebook' tools.

Hope you are feeling better from the Unpleasant Cold!
