Cats and knitting, fortunately unrelated
Mar. 24th, 2012 11:29 amI claim to own a black and white cat, but in reality, she is a handsome red-brown.

And I have been doing some knitting.
I sorted, as is my wont, a bunch of yarns by colour and found I had a nice, autumnal selection. So I made a scarf.

It isn't quite as eye-searing as it looks, more muted yellows and browns, but I took the pic inside and that's how it turned out. Considering the variety of yarns used, it turned out quite well, but I'm planning on putting some kind of edging around it, possibly crocheted (if I can remember how) or picked up and cast off, or possibly blanket stitch. I think it needs either a very dark brown or a black, which of course I have not got.
And two or three weeks ago I became enamoured of an entrelac scarf. Well, I started knitting it on Tuesday. So far, I have this much:

I am totally in love with this!

Date: 2012-03-28 09:30 am (UTC)I'm Nestholder on Ravelry, but I haven't been doing anything much there, just looking through other people's stuff and accumulating patterns.

Date: 2012-03-24 08:23 pm (UTC)The entrelac scarf is so cool! I've just started knitting again after a break of something like twenty years. I think I must download that pattern and keep it for after I've finished the knitted cap I just started. (Which probably will be sometime next decade if my current speed is anything to go by :-)

Date: 2012-03-25 09:16 am (UTC)Oh, I was looking at a pattern for an entrelac kindle case the other day, but am still not sure if I can figure out the technique.

Date: 2012-03-28 04:57 am (UTC)I haven't knit socks from the toe up, is it difficult at all? I bought a book and learnt how to knit socks from it, but I'm afraid I haven't found a comprehensive tutorial of how to knit from the toe up. I'm afraid I will screw things up!!!

Date: 2012-03-28 09:34 am (UTC)There is something called Judy's Magic Cast-on, and I'm sure you can find a video demonstration of it online. It is amazing, because you end up with no seam at all. Then you go into the Magic Loop, ie using one circular needle, and the sock just forms up into a little tube as you go. It's quite fascinating, and really impresses people who don't knit!

Date: 2012-03-28 09:29 am (UTC)The scary knitting is actually very easy—it's about doubled in length since I put the post up!

Date: 2012-03-24 06:44 pm (UTC)Socks has a pretty little face, though she is somewhat barrel-shaped. I don't think she's quite shown off to best advantage in these pics, but I was trying to get the colour.

Date: 2012-03-25 07:46 am (UTC)The entrelac scarf has recently turned into purples, blues and greens, so it's quite exciting.

Date: 2012-03-25 07:37 pm (UTC)Lovely knitting projects. The pattern of the entrelac scarf is gorgeous! Is it difficult?

Date: 2012-03-25 09:59 pm (UTC)The entrelac is actually remarkably easy! It's not quite 'knit one row, purl one row', but it just involves slipping a stitch here and joining two together there, and lots of turning the work—each row is only eight stitches. It's so clever! But to my mind, easier than lace knitting (for instance).
