A recent addition to the list of Things I Do Not Understand

My Mac has a tiny, discreet little white light on the front. When the machine is awake, it's a constant pinhole-sized light, quite unobtrusive. When the machine is asleep, it dims and glows in a slow cycle.

My Beast's new Windows machine has a rather large blue light. When the machine is asleep, it flashes on and off.

So, on the one hand: I'mmmmm......asleeeeeeeeeeeeeeppp.......I'mmmm... asleeeeeeeeeep.

On the other hand: I'M ASLEEP! I'M ASLEEP! I'M ASLEEP!

I—what?

I have never understood sleep lights, man. Uh, if you open the computer up and it's black and you have to do something to get it working again, by now have we not all discerned that it's sleeping? Should "dark and you have to wake it up" not have sufficient parallels with, I don't know...sleep?

Well, to be fair, it might be *off*, which requires more attention than tapping the keyboard. Though on reflection, I'm not sure the blue light *ever* goes off... it's like a bloody disco in our bedroom at night, what with the router and the cable modem and the sockets and the digital radio and so on and so on.

LOL this post is awesome. ;D I had to literally put black electric tape over my PC's light. It's so blindingly annoying I have no idea who thought "Hey, let's put a largely bright blinking light right in the eye direction of our PC users!". Moron. lol

It's so daft! I mean, it's a ridiculously *big*, bright light, just to say "on". We have so many machines with little lights, in the corner of the bedroom - several of them are covered with post-its!

This made me laugh.

My little netbook requires the power button to be pressed to wake it up--just the same as turning it on from "off." So I don't know why it has to have a sleep light, either.

At least it's not a Night Terrors light.
