pensnest: cartoon dalek bearing tea tray caption 'would you care for some tea?' (Dalek proffers tea)

I learned something new today. I learned of 'Metal Umlauts'. I am amused.

I also learned that the now sadly disused word 'Groak' means "To silently watch someone while they are eating, hoping to be invited to join them". This does not, as it happens, apply to my cat, for she is not silent on these occasions. YCMV.

Meanwhile my Feminine Time is upon me. My periods are, hmm, compressing. It seems that my entire uterus empties itself out in the first 36 hours. This does have its advantages, but, JEEEZ. I mean. It's like a murder scene in here.

Random icon gives me a dalek proffering tea. I have no idea why that seems appropriate, but it does.

Then comes the time in menopause when we dance you never know when murder day is going to happen. Additional fun! Suddenly PMT becomes a helpful friend. (Except for when it's faking you out. Bastard.)

Daleks understand the importance of replacing fluids depleted through blood loss. They don't usually care, but they're aware.

Whaaaaaaat is this you say about Metformin? I'm on a ton of the stuff, had no idea it was a fountain of youth. I hope you don't mean perpetual bleeding--I really want to be done with this. My schedule has gone from regular (back before I shut it down) to "Guess when! C'mon, guess!" these days, so Metformin hasn't helped there, though I've heard that it's a good regulator for people with PCOS. If I'm prolonging this mess with Metformin, me and my various doctors are going to have WORDS.

I've found that taking tons of Ibuprofen the first two days helps with volume to an amazing degree, but that may be specific to fibroid having, which, woo! lucky me, I now enjoy, too.

yeah, when I had them my cats were never big on the "silently waiting" thing either - they were more like "demanding loudly" at meal time. however, my dad's dog Vanity is an expert at Groaking - those big sad eyes are constantly fixated on the person (who will most likely cave) with food. and she totally has him trained, as now she always gets a small taste when the meal is over.

I tell you, getting through and past menopause was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I hated throwing away $20 to $30 a month on supplies; I hated everything about being in pain and bloated for days on end; and I really hated it when the fibroids developed and I was, in essence, having my period three weeks out of every four..

I count the day I had all that removed among the best days of my life, and even though the induced menopause gave me hot flashes and night sweats, it was still worth it, even when I was going through them. And now, it's just heavenly.

Good luck getting through this, hon, and I'm around if you ever want to talk.

*and I just feel so indignant that regular bleeding is a Thing and we have to put up with it and dammit, *why* do we still have to put up with it?*

I agree with you completely, which is why I rejoiced over being done with it.

Metal Umlauts are extremely confusing when you speak a language that actually uses them. Like, all of a sudden I'm not supposed to pronounce them??? Then there's also STARGÅTE, wherein å is a Swedish letter for o, and it always makes me want to pronounce it as a fake Swedish word.

I was not aware that there was a term for metal umlauts (I just typed umlouts, which I feel certain ought to be a word in it's own right!)
