Beast and I have just spent a few days in Somerset, staying with my BFF and her man. The particular incentive was a trip to Bath to see the Kaffe Fassett exhibition at the American Museum in Bath—which was the most terrific *explosion* of colour I think I've ever seen. And I've been to the Brighton Pavilion. I probably needed more time to go round that particular collection of textiles to get the most out of them, but it was a very well presented selection, and certainly Glorious.
We were then conducted through several of the period rooms by a guide, and ended up in a room of quilts, which was of course heaven to most of the group, who were the quilting group my BFF joined a little while ago. She's a beginner, with big ambitions.
After lunch on the sunny terrace, the coach took us into Bath, and we made a brief pilgrimage to a quilting supplies shop which, happily for me, had a yarn shop more or less next door. I was very restrained, I only bought one skein, but it was laceweight with sparkle, which I haven't encountered elsewhere. Still haven't found the right yarn for a more peacock-coloured version of the peacock shawl, but it gives me something to look for in yarn stores, and a good reason not to spend lots of money, when I don't find it. We did pootle around other stuff in Bath, but there wasn't enough time to do the town in a meaningful way. Possibly we should have stayed, eaten, and done the Bizarre Bath walking tour before heading back home. As the coach was basically an oven on wheels, it might have been a pleasanter journey once the sun was down. Still, all in all, a good day.
