My doings, of late.
Apr. 26th, 2015 09:34 amI'm so glad we moved in April. Everything is so *pretty*!
We went for a walk on Thursday, by crossing the road straight into a little park, walking across the park to the entrance to a bit of Ancient Forest (true! There's a lot of it hereabouts) and through that, briefly along a very quiet residential road, then through a non-denominational cemetery, round the corner to the main railway station, and across the road to the place of cinema and eateries. Had lunch, and saw the new Avengers movie. My verdict: good stuff, except for the boring fight scenes. Walked back through cemetery, wood and park, and it was lovely.
That evening I went to have a try at a Ladies Barbershop Choir, and they turned out to be the friendliest group of women in the world (and not even Fans!). Looks as though I shall be singing Bass. Very old school, since I remember joining the choir at school in order to be in 'the opera'—actually an operetta, La Belle Helene, and being assigned to sing bass. I'm not that keen on barbershop as a musical concept, but the choir is nicely in the middle of a spectrum that goes from 'very challenging sacred music read at sight' to 'you don't have to be able to sing to join our choir', neither of which I want.
Friday I tried a local knit and natter (mostly rather elderly ladies, but quite a mixture, including The One Who Knows The Local Gossip, which may be useful), and also met the next-door-but-one neighbours, whose kitchen we went to view. I feel that I am beginning to get to know the people around me, and it's a good feeling.
Saturday I spent bonding with my Bun, at the Norfolk Game and Country Show. I have never seen so many dogs in my life. Half the dog owners in Norfolk were there with their beasts, all of which (except for one Chihuahua in a sweater) were proper working-type dogs of some kind. Many labs, many spaniels, and more ridgebacks than I've ever seen in once place before. It was very Country. There were stalls selling wellies everywhere, and all-weather clothing. And knives. And guns. (!!!!!!) There were gundog exhibitions and ferret races and a booth where you could see how much your dog wanted to retrieve that ball by throwing it into a water tank… Also there was fudge, *everywhere*, which I did not buy, although I did purchase chocolate and orange flavour cheese, because, seriously? And I bought (as did Bun) a Norfolk Plough Pudding, which we shall have for lunch today. And earrings, and a set of ceramic frying pans at a very good price, and a quarter ton of pork scratchings for Beast.
I need the weather to revert to good for this afternoon (it was somewhat overcast yesterday, and rained on us a bit) so that I can de-weed a bit more of the flowerbed. But for now, time to go to the gym. Zumba Step today!
Where is the new Avengers movie being discussed? I wish to, well, probably not participate, particularly if it is on Tumblr, but at least read fandom's reactions.

Date: 2015-04-26 07:27 pm (UTC)Getting to know The One Who Knows Local Gossip sounds like a very good reason for joining a knitting group :-)
The Show sounds lots of fun. But now I'm craving pork scratchings and you can't get them in Sweden!
