Snowflake Challenge 2016 - Day 2
Jan. 2nd, 2016 02:54 pmIn your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.
It really is difficult to do this, particularly when my first request makes me feel kinda pathetic and my second makes me feel kinda disloyal to the fandom of my heart. But, here goes.
1. I love feedback… I would really love some fresh feedback for my stories, which you can find here. The popslash and Glambert are more or less in order of writing, and the Trek in chronology within the show. FB can be left on this post, or sent via the LJ/email links on the stories.
2. Rec me a new fandom. If it’s a gigantic fandom (MCU, Star Wars, Sherlock etc) assume I already know about it—I’d rather be introduced to something much smaller than that. I’m in the UK, and don’t have access to paid-for TV channels beyond the ‘free stuff’ that Virgin offers. In the past, I’ve written Star Trek TNG, popslash and Adam Lambert RPF, and one-offs for Harry Potter, Stargate: Atlantis and a couple of others. I also read MCU, Vorkosigan, bandom, a few others as the mood takes me and the recs find me. But I’d love to find a fandom with a bit of excitement about it, something that is happening *now* that I can get into. So, tell me about the one you love!
3. Share a recipe for a main meal for two that you enjoy cooking and eating. I need to branch out.
And, thank you in advance!

Date: 2016-01-02 03:39 pm (UTC)As for the second. I'm enjoying reading The Musketeers at the moment. It's not a huge fandom or really busy right now but the third season will be airing soonish, and hopefully things will get hopping then.
It's weird for me enjoying a non-rpf fandom after so long, but the show is a mixture of silly, serious and adventures I'm really enjoying.

Date: 2016-01-04 05:43 am (UTC)3. Chicken curry with red peppers (serves 4), and Summertime risotto (serves 6). Most of Ricardo's recipes are delicious. Although, for his deserts, I cut the suggested amounts of butter and sugar in half.

Date: 2016-01-06 02:31 pm (UTC)As an example, here's a vegetarian sausage hotpot, which is one of our favourites. And if you don't fancy vegetarian sausages, just put regular meaty sausages instead. ...I think I'll put this on next week's meal plan, actually.
Edit: I forgot to say, though, when she says 'serves 4', she means four people who aren't really very hungry. Husband and I easily devours the whole thing between the two of us.

Date: 2016-01-21 03:37 am (UTC)Chicken Adobo -
1 Chicken (cut up) or use just the parts you like, equivalent to 1 chicken
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
1/4 tsp. sugar
3 T. vinegar
1 bay leaf
2 T. soy sauce
5 cloves garlic (chopped very small)
Mix all ingredients except the chicken in a pot with a good lid. Add the chicken a piece at a time, making sure each piece is partly covered by the mixture. Marinate the chicken for one hour (can be done overnight or for a day, in the fridge, for extra flavor). Cover the pot. Turn the heat on at a low setting. Cook for 1 1/2 hours - or until chicken is soft and tender.
Serve with rice and any vegetable you like. Sometimes we peel and cut up potatoes to cook with the chicken.
This dish can be made with pork, but we have always used chicken.

Caribbean Chicken Curry with Orange Rice
CHICKEN:
2 T. vegetable oil
2 lb. chicken pieces
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. curry powder
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 c. golden raisins
1 c. orange juice
1 T. cornstarch
1 T. sugar
RICE:
1 c. rice
1/2 c. chopped cashews
2 tsp. grated orange peel
CHICKEN: Heat the oil; add the chicken and brown. Drain off the fat and add salt, curry powder, ginger, garlic, and raisins. In a small, separate bowl combine the orange juice with cornstarch and sugar. Mix until lump free. Pour the liquid mixture over the chicken. Cook on a low heat, turning several times, until the chicken is tender, about 45
minutes. If a thicker sauce is desired, remove the chicken to simmer the sauce a bit longer. Return the chicken to sauce for serving.
RICE: Cook the rice as usual; once cooked, add the cashews and orange peel.

Mock Cheese Soufflé
8 slices bread
1 lb. sharp cheddar, grated
3 eggs, lightly beaten
2 c. milk (1 & 1/2% is ok)
1/4 c. melted butter (~ butter substitute)
Salt & pepper to taste
Paprika
Note: Make this in TWO moderate sized baking dishes in order to maximize the crusty, cheesy part around the edges.
Tear bread into modest-sized pieces and put a layer of torn pieces on the bottom on each baking dish. Top with a layer of grated cheese. Add another layer of torn bread pieces. Top with another layer of grated cheese.
Mix together the lightly beaten eggs, the milk, the salt & the pepper and pour all over the cheese/bread combination. Trickle the melted butter or butter substitute (I use "I Can’t Believe It's Not Butter") over everything and sprinkle the top with paprika. Refrigerate for at least an hour up to overnight. Take out of the refrigerator 10 or 15 minutes before baking, uncovered, for about an hour at 350 degrees; it should be lovely and brown all over and crunchy brown at the edges. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.
I love to cook, so if you want anything else, I'd be glad to share more.
