pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Bun and Vincent)

Yep, it's [livejournal.com profile] bun18's birthday. My baby is nineteen! Dear me.

In honour of the occasion, an anecdote.

When my Bun was three, or perhaps four years old, and she and her little brother were strapped into the back seat of the car on the way home from a shopping trip, I was rather taken aback to hear a small voice pipe up from the back:

"Mummy, how does the baby get inside the mummy's tummy?"

Oh, thought I, fabulous. But it had always been policy to answer questions as accurately as possible, so I launched into an explanation of how when a lady and a gentleman love one another, the gentleman puts his Bit inside the lady's Bits, and a special kind of seed comes out of his Bit and swims inside until it finds a tiny, tiny Egg, and it joins up with the egg and that turns into a baby that grows inside the lady's tummy, and when it is big enough, slides out of the lady's Bits. (Hah.)

There was outraged silence, and then: "Eugh! And you made Daddy do that - twice?"

Teehee, so cute! My son found out quite some time ago that babies come from mummy's tummy, but hasn't inquired about how they got in there, thankfully. He did at the time state that he would stop eating so he would get smaller again and could fit in mummy's tummy again. Seems he must have liked it there :)

And happy Birthday to your little girl :D

Nineteen, congratulations! And, good explanation. I've heard some corkers in my time, but my favourite is my mum's: "When you're older, I'll leave some books around, make sure you read them, now eat your dinner."
To her credit, she did. My sister and I read 'Woman's Body: A Manual' avidly.

Heh. And I'm glad you see that you're fulfilling your mothering duty of providing excruciatingly embarrassing anecdotes about your kids to all and sundry. :-)
