It is amazing how our politicians are all We Need Leadership in This Time Of Crisis, and none of them wants to lead.

Went to see Independence Day: Resurgence this afternoon, mostly because I discovered that Brent Spiner was reprising his role as Dr Okun. Going to a movie with low expectations usually works out well, in that it's hard to be disappointed when you don't expect much. The logic of how the aliens were defeated was a lot cleaner than the 'logic' in the first film. The people we're supposed to care about category was populated by pretty young things and Jeff Goldblum (I will always care about Jeff Goldblum), but I was disappointed to find that The Sacrifice was made not by any of the pretty young things but by the character who gave the best portrayal of real love*. Oh, and President Whitmore**, who wanted to save his baby girl from the aliens, which, fair enough, fair enough. Although it was a little odd that he was cured of his dementia-esque symptoms so neatly.
I also have some concerns about the future of humanity. By the end of the film, the only female humans we see alive are three adults*** and half a bus of school kids. This bodes ill for repopulating the species.
* Dr Okun's devoted boyfriend, whose name I don't even know. He was gay without being young and cute, so I suppose I should have seen that one coming.
** It still cracks me up to see a fictional president with my name. It really shouldn't.
*** Okay, one middle-aged woman (because Jeff Goldblum deserves one, obviously), and two pretty young things.
